INTRODUCTION
Business organization can be termed as the entity which is being enacted for the aim to
carry on the commercial activity which involves trading and manufacturing. Their main motive
is to maximise the profits and generate highest revenue. There are many forms of business
enterprises which includes sole proprietorship, partnership, companies and many others (Cagle,
Yılmaz and Doğru, 2019). This report is based on Asda, a retail industry which deals in
groceries, financial services and general merchandise. This essay will deal with role and
importance of business functions.
MAIN BODY
The functions of business can be defined as the set of activities that are carried on by the
companies in order to yield the income of firm. Asda is a leading supermarket chain which have
many functions to undergo so that it can maximise its profitability. In context to Asda, the
importance and role different business functions are illustrated thereunder-
Marketing involves a process of introducing, communicating and promoting the offering
of the company in the market in order to spread awareness among customers. Asda's marketing
department has a role to promote and communicate the offering in which it deals already and is
about to launch so that more and more customers are attracted to make a purchase. It conducts
creative marketing in order to stay ahead of competitors. The importance of this unit is that it
helps in maintenance of the long term positive relationship with consumers so that there is
customer engagement for the successful survival of business (Farquhar, 2017).
Finance is such functional area of a business whose main task is to raise funds for the
operations of business and work on to allocate them to other units so that each department can
carry on its functions in effective manner (Mosteanu, 2020). In Asda, the main role of financial
unit is to manage, plan and acquire expenditure of the company in order to manage the resources
of it appropriately. It holds importance in company as it is a lifeblood of the organisation
because it ensures smooth functioning of business.
Production unit is such which is engaged in the process of converting the raw materials
into the finished product by various procedures. The main role of production function in Asda is
to collect the raw materials and convert them into finished output so that it is taken to the reach
of customers. Its importance is that it helps in adding the value to the offering so that
