Evaluate the effectiveness and your usefulness of the learning experience
The research process was conducted on the topic ‘Business Innovation through Open data’.
Open data is the process where the huge and complex data of the companies is managed
and it helps the struggling companies in facing neck to neck competition in the industry. I
have gone through various data sources which helped me in knowing the significance of
Open data for promoting innovation in the companies. Literature review was conducted
with the purpose of collecting information about Open data and its significance in the
business performance (Accenture, 2018). I have learned using various sources of internet to
gain information on the topic. Open data is not only for large sized organisations but is also
used by all the organisations irrespective of their size (Chan, 2013). It is used to find out the
gaps in the market so that opportunities can be grabbed (Kitchin, 2014). Open data also
helps in enhancing the revenue of the companies as the costs reduces and it becomes easier
for the companies to collect, manage and utilise the open data (Janssen, 2012).
Explain how this learning process will be useful
I have learned that this learning process will be useful as it will help me in implementing the
knowledge gained during the research to actual working environment and in the personal
life too. The learning gained about colleting the information for the topic will help in
knowing different types of data and how it can be applied for taking out the conclusions of
the research.
Application of knowledge and insights in future
The knowledge gained will help me in applying it in future. It will be helpful in the
application of the Open data knowledge and insights in my professional life and I will also be
able to apply the other skills which I developed in myself during the whole research process.
It is true that everyone has slight idea about Open data term but this project helped me in
gaining deep knowledge about it which can be very useful for me in future.
Happenings of learning process

The learning process started when I had to select a topic for my research activity. After
selecting the topic, I planned the research so that every step of the research can fall into
place. Planning of research was followed by data collection where I had to meet different
people related to this field for taking their views and knowledge about the concept. This was
very important to have practical knowledge and actual implementations of the knowledge. I
conducted interviews for taking qualitative data and also developed a questionnaire for
gaining quantitative data. Both the types of data helped in giving a balanced view about the
concept and also make many doubts clear which were there in my mind. I also went to
libraries to read books, journals and previously researched papers so that I could collect
some secondary data too which could help primary data in developing conclusions.
Evaluation of learning
The learning gained improved and brushed up my skills. Specially. The data collection and
analysis process helped me in finding out various methods from which an individual can
bring improvement in himself. I got all the support from my teachers and friends in
developing the questionnaire and interview questions. This was completely a new
experience for me. I had a slight idea about research about knowing about different
methods of it and limitations of it, let me know that research is much more than I ever
thought of. From the research, I really came across the concept of Open data where I
learned that there are several advantages and disadvantages of the concept. The
advantages include rise to innovation and boom is given to the young talent (Susha,
Grönlund and Janssen, 2015). It also helps in generating trillions of economic values to the
economy. Open data has made it easier for the companies to collect and manage data so
that it can be shared and used at the right platform (Lassinantti, 2013). But the
disadvantages are also there with advantages. It increases social inequality which creates
digital divide (Roberts, 2012). It also increases the risk of cybercrime in the industry which is
very harmful for the secrecy of data for companies, government and at individual level
(Attard, et. al, 2015). This knowledge will help me in coping up with future challenges during
my job and it will also me in getting good grades in my course as I will be able to answer
most of the questions raised up by my professors.
The learning process and the plan for the application of learning process

For many reasons I chose the topic Open data. One of the reasons was that it is a recent
trend and is used by most of the companies nowadays. Open data knowledge could help me
in my profession in future and it is also important to have a knowledge about such
innovative concepts to keep yourself updated with the trend. I loved exploring the world of
open data as it let me experiencing new things and exploring new ideas. I got to interact
with people which is the fundamental part of the learning process (Mansor, 2011).
Adopting open data technology as my profession will help me to open the opportunities for
myself for various companies which are working with this concept. The scope is wide which
will help me in getting good job. The learnings made through the research process will also
help me in applying them to my personal life. I will have to integrate my existing skills and
understanding with the newly gained understanding in order to confront the problem in a
much better way. The research is not merely about acquiring the knowledge but it is about
constructing the understanding of the concepts learned. This learning process will be able to
assist me in developing and improving my personal and professional life (Helyer, 2015).
