BUSINESS INTELLIGENCE IN VODAFONE1
Introduction
The organization of Vodafone New Zealand Ltd., although being a subsidiary of the
mammoth telecommunication infrastructure of Vodafone was tremendously successful in its
venture amongst its customers in the nation. It gained its momentum by achieving more than
50% of the market share. However, with the increasing maturity of the mobile phone
industry, the subsidiary failed to satisfy its customers and started losing them in no time.
Thereafter, the company applied Business Intelligence to implement an Enterprise Data
Warehouse to manage the data automatically and enjoy the associated benefits thus
successfully gaining back their goodwill amongst their customers as well as their competitors
in the market.
Challenges
The biggest challenge of Vodafone New Zealand Ltd was its competitors that were
emerging successfully with the growing maturity of the mobile phone industry leaving out
the mentioned company much behind in competition. The company suffered from a stagnant
market share of about 56 percent that was highly discouraging for the organization.
Moreover, due to the successful services provided the competitors in the market, the
Vodafone subsidiary failed to retain its existing customers and fell short of strategies that will
help them to regain the customer base. Due to the increase in the number of competitors, the
funding for compliance aligned with government regulations increased at a significant rate.
Furthermore, the company lagged behind from the revenue earned from each of its
customers, as the customers were not present in sufficient numbers. Hence, another big issue
the company suffered from was retaining its customer loyalty and holding back their
customers such that they can contribute to the profit margin of the company.
