Decision Support System (DSS) is predominant software in use by different medical staff and patients to collect and extract information in order to make viable decision in an effective manner. Currently, it is being used in medical industry to make decision with ease by presenting and interpreting data conveniently. DSS has been categorized as a Business Intelligence (BI) due to its ability to analyze data and present it for advanced decision making (Riabacke, Larsson & Danielson, 2011). For any DSS, there are several requirements that should be considered by system users in medical industry. First, the functionality of BI platform should be highly considered. The functionality of DSSserves as basis of the software and should be able to offer interactive visualization, software customization capability and interface user-friendliness to all medical staff. Business requirements in any software should be associated with some business documentation as well as project status and DSS in healthcare industry cannot be an exception. To capture business requirements during system development, all stakeholders such as nurses, doctorsandothermedicalstaffshouldbefactored.Inordertocaptureallbusiness functionalities, functional requirement documents should be used. Functionality requirements collection can be used as an indication that, system development or upgrade has not been started. The next aspect in business requirements in business intelligence is data visualization capability. DSS should involve data representation in any visual medium for ease of decision making (Mohammad, 2012). In order to make decisions in an efficient manner, DSS should be able to present data in different form such as charts, graphs and tables for ease of use in healthcare industry. Information users are able to make some customization to data in order to meet specific requirements. In this regard, BI customization requirement should be met adequately with a sole purpose of making changes to some information. Customization can be done in form of SQL queries, data filters, layout and themes when filtering patient’s data. Data visualization can be
used an indicator that, system is working and data collected by the system can be used in decision making in healthcare industry. Similarly, decision system should consider security parameters in place to secure any set of data collected. In this regard, business intelligent developers as well as all other stakeholders should consider security of patient’s data. Security considerations factors in aspects such as user privileges in terms of who has access to which data and for which use. According to Borissova, Mustakerov & Korsemov (2016), system privileges and limits are meant to secure system from fraud and measure compliance with required standards. Organizations are required to have a clear outlined security document which defines security parameters and privileges accorded to each system user. External protection measures should be outlined in a comprehensive manner in order to make it possible to understand what has been done and areas that require advanced strategies. Final business intelligent requirement which would be addressed is deployment of the BI would be DSS deployment. The deployment methodology is highly dependent on existing infrastructure,storagemechanismsandsecurityparameters.Importanttonoteisthat, organizational deployment selection should consider data access, security and general system protection from misuse by unauthorized systems (Al-Shobaki & Abu-Naser, 2017). Deployment of the system is a clear indicator of system development and testing post to going live into business production.
