The functions of business operations
Production: this operation department has a function of taking responsibility to manage the
conversion of raw materials and other inputs into the finished goods or services in the most
effective manner in order to serve it to the customers.
Supply chain: this operation of the business has a function of customer service, demand
planning, handle purchasing and manufacturing and also to look after the entire process of
supply of raw materials to finished goods.
Logistics: the logistics department has a function to take care of the packaging, transportation,
inventory control, warehousing, order processing and materials handling and much more to
deliver goods on time from production location to the customers.
Quality control: the quality department has a function of assuring the quality of products and
services offered by the company to customers. The quality operations has role to make sure the
company’s operations are standardized quality measures.
HR: the function of the Human resource department is to manage and handle the activities
related to workforce of the organisation. The HR department of business help in recruiting,
hiring of talent for the company, manage their payroll, allocate right talent at right place, manage
and evaluate performance of the employees and most important they have a function to retain the
employees.

For the effective operations within the organisations the managers have a role to formulate the
effective strategies and operational plans. Also the mangers have duty to evaluate the
performance of the operations on daily basis this will help the business in improving the
efficiency of their operations and mitigate the flaws occurring during the working of operations.
For the effective operations of the business the managers procure materials and resource for each
department and also allocate the suitable human resource for each operation as per the
capabilities and skills.

Leadership is the act of guiding, coaching and leading others by motivating them for both
personal and organisation goals whereas the management is act of directing and managing the
actions of others in order to achieve organisational goals.

The are some traits that makes a good manager such as caring, communicative, team worker,
cooperative, good listener, emotional resilience, fair, innovative, drive development in team
members, result focused, clarity of vision and goal setting and some other technical capabilities.

The managers can influence the organisational culture positively through their effective
communication, leadership and delegation. Also, by adapting motivational activities and

gain productivity which is directly reflected as the higher profitability. Employee management is
