Introduction
A business plan refers to a written document that sketches and stipulates the anticipated
activities of a business. A business plan not only tells what a particular business is planning to do
in the future but also how the business will do its proposed activities. For any entrepreneur,
writing a business plan is very necessary. Like other entrepreneurs, Advanced Practice Nursing
(APN) entrepreneurs that wish to venture into independent practice, find business plans very
effective during their processes of forming start-ups. The formulation and writing of business
plans require ultimate preciseness and circumspection from the aspiring APN entrepreneur. This
paper attempts to explore the intricacies involved when formulating a function business plan for
a nursing officer. The paper will specifically analyze the components of a typical business plan
as a family nursing practitioner in California State. The paper will specify different roles;
functions and activities that I intend to carry out during my practice as a family nursing
practitioner with the assistance of my doctor colleague. This is because the California State does
not allow the formation of an independent family nursing facility without aid from California
State's physician's intervention. The various components of the plan for action are detailed
below:
Preliminary Procedures
Before opening a primary care facility in California, it is a requirement by the law to
acquire a license from the relevant authorities. Moreover, before setting up a private family
nursing facility, it is prudent for the entrepreneur to first develop clear-cut strategies that he/she
may employ to ensure a sustainable business. An entrepreneur also needs to identify the area of

choice's need for the service he/she intend to offer. For instance, An FNP entrepreneur in
California may need to answer the question: ‘do the residents in California need primary care'?
The answer to this question would be very important for an entrepreneur before setting up a
business. Moreover, the entrepreneur needs to establish his business's consultants, customers,
and financiers. The entrepreneur is also required to be specific on the time his/her start-up will
take to reach a break-even point.
Focus of Practice
According to Joel (2017), the geographical location of a health facility is the most
important decision by any independent APN entrepreneur. The scholar attests that it is the
location of a private nursing enterprise determines the success or failure of the business.
Moreover, the scholar adds that adequate knowledge about the market place (customers) as well
as professional relationships and climate are very necessary points to consider when considering
venturing into health-care private practice. For a family nursing practitioner (FNP), identifying
the ideal location would be of absolute advantage to the business. I plan to establish my
independent FNP facility in Compton, California. The decision to start the business in the
California residential area is motivated by the less number of private FNP centers in the area.
Moreover, the population in Compton also played an important role in the decision to open up a
private facility in Compton. As aforementioned, the California-based start-up will recruit a
doctor recognized by the California State. The California State requires the nursing entrepreneurs
venturing for private practice to firstly employ the practice of a doctor recognized by the state in
their start-up (Xue, et al., 2016). The services of the physician will be of great advantage to the
operations of our family nursing activities. The doctors will function to streamline the activities
