INTRODUCTION
Under self and others is refers as ascertaining information about the behaviour that will help to
carrying future functions in more appropriate manner. The determination about ourselves
provides an opportunity to know about skills, having or not in performance of particular action.
This will further aid in formulation of an action plan that includes the measures for development
of particular skill in performance of associated functions more appropriately (Audi, 2019). To
gain knowledge on others is important as help to understand about their performance capabilities
in association to their attributes. In business, this will have importance in allocation of duties and
responsibilities to different personnel’s in accordance to their personalities. The main aim of this
report is to identify the areas of development and build an action to improve.
The aspects cover in report includes evaluation of psychological perspectives that will aid
to understand self and others, exploration of three different skills & reflection on its presence and
development of action plan to improve the skills that are weak.

1. Introduction and briefly evaluation of psychological perspectives to understand self and other
at workplace
The importance of understanding self and other at workplace is high as aid in development of
professional career along with own personality. Ascertaining information about own skills and
attributes provides an opportunity to know about the deviations in working that will be removed
in future by taking the preventive actions and adoption of skill development measures. On the
other hand, understanding of others provides an option to get knowledge about their capabilities
through ascertaining about their skills and attributes. This will motivate us to work more hard
from them and achieve higher professional growth at workplace. Also, the opportunity is present
in form of gaining skills have by others in vast development of own personality that is distinctive
in all manner. The main aspect that will have huge contribution towards understanding own and
others skill is known as psychological perspectives. There are many perspectives that define the
reason behind the behaviour of a person. All these are known as psychodynamic, behavioural,
cognitive, biological, cross cultural, evolutionary and humanistic (Goer and Elliott, 2019). All

these have their own separate theory and according to that they define the behaviour of
individual along with possible skills and attributes associated with personality.
Psychodynamic perspective covers that human behaviour persists the role of unconscious
mind, early childhood experiences and interpersonal relationships. This further aid in
understanding of human behaviour and treatment of the people suffering from any kind of mental
illness. Behavioural perspectives cover about the psychology that focuses on learned behaviours.
Here, major focus is provided over behaviours that are developed solely through observables.
Cognitive perspectives provide focus over mental processes only such as memory, thinking,
problem solving, language and decisions making. This includes the comparison of human mind
with information processing model of a computer to know that how information is acquired,
processed, stored and utilized. Biological perspectives focus over two aspects physical and
biological in determination of the behaviour of an individual (Pan, Gruber and Binder, 2019).
The aspects which are considered for exploration includes nervous system, genetics, brain,
immune system and endocrine system. Cross-Cultural perspective cover about the influence of
different cultures over the behaviour of an individual including its thinking. Evolutionary
perspective has main focus over the study that how evolution help to explain physiological
processes. Here, in consideration taken different principles of evolution including natural
selection and its application to psychological phenomenon. Humanistic perspective focuses over
the role of motivation upon thought and behaviour of an individual (Psychological Perspectives,
2020).
It is understood from the above description that all the different perspective has their own
importance in understanding of the behaviour self and others. In this regard, better to apply all
perspectives integrally in determining the information related to presence of all possible skills
and attributes so future actions and plans can be made in accordance to same to attain stated and
desirable objectives.
2. Three different skills explored during this module
Time Management
What is the core skill to develop?
The skill which is needed to develop in future is related to Time Management.
Why did I select this skill to reflect on? Why is this core skill important for your

This skill is selected by me to reflect because management of time is must at all point in life
or business in attainment of desired results. This will aid further in performance of multiple
functions at single point of time in accurate manner. Also, the importance associated with the
development of this skill is wide in scope where benefits will be attained in personal and
professional life.
This core skill is important for personal development as aid to handle all the different
activities on continuous basis without any stress. Also, this will provide an opportunity to
ascertain the nature of activity i.e. on priority or not and if occur on urgent basis then
allocate the work in such manner that urgent one will be completed on stated time. The
development of this skill has huge importance within businesses because there is always
need of a person who is able to perform multiple tasks like handling of activities and
allocation of tasks to employees. Development of this skill in me help to attain the post of
manager who is responsible for effective management.

It is determined by me that I am not good in time management skill. I always find difficulties
to manage the different functions on same time and get confused. This leads the non-
completion of all activities in perfect manner. It is understood by me various times. First
time I gathered the information from self-assessment where I felt unable to prioritise the
work on the basis of need and not able to complete all the tasks within given period of time.
The same is also told by my peers and tutors that I lacked in time management skills and
unable to perform multiple works at single time. I got confused and unable to focus over any
aspect.

match between how you see yourself and how others see you, or not?
No, I can’t find any contradiction in the analysis mentioned above. I also have the same
feelings due to poor results and less opportunities. Even the same is proved in test of my own
that I felt confused that creates stress and in last unable to perform work any work in

accordance to the allocated standards and time period.
How might this skill help me in the future? (use references to support your argument)
The development of this skill has dual benefit for me. It not only helps in development of my
own personality but aid in professional growth too (Huang, Hu and Shao, 2019). All the
business organisations irrespective to their nature of business requires the person who is able
to perform multiple tasks. In my own personal life, I feel stress free and can grab large
number of opportunities to work in different tasks.
Public Speaking
What is the core skill to develop?
The skill that I needed to develop is related to public speaking.
Why did I select this skill to reflect on? Why is this core skill important for your
development (personal and professional)? (use relevant theories and concepts from

The main reason behind the selection of this skill is that huge importance in personal and
professional career. While in academics, the ability of speaking help to gain large number of
opportunities along with learning more in effective manner. If talking about businesses,
importance of public speaking is important to hold higher authorities and decision making
power. This is so because all these are needed to communicate the decision different
stakeholders associated with their business.
The skill of public speaking is related to communication of message to large number of
people from one specific platform. While considering the personal benefits then this will
help to lean more in academics along with sharing of own views where image will be
enhanced through valuable contributions. On the other hand, while talking about the benefits
of this skill in professional carer then this will provide an opportunity to hold higher position
from where able to earn income and image. It is demand among the organisation that
authorities have the ability to communicate publically without hesitation and with
confidence.

I am not good in this skill. I feel stress and not able to speak in front of the large number of
people whom are unknown. Also, I have fear regarding their questionings that diminishes
my overall confidence and restricts to perform such actions. The same is told by my peers
that I have issue regarding public speaking because while we all involved in group talks then
I am unable to provide my views and stand silently. Also, tutors said me that I am unable to
answer the questions that are asked in front of large number of people ever after knowing the
correct answer of same.

match between how you see yourself and how others see you, or not?
No, there is no contractions in between the option of others and perception of mine about the
ability of public speaking. I clearly knows that at the time of public speaking I felt stress and
unable to speak out. Also, the same is told by my peers and tutors where they added that
unable to provide answers of questions that are known to me. I agree with same as there
were many situations in class when unable to answer.
How might this skill help me in the future? (use references to support your argument)
The importance of this skill in future is high. This not only help in academics and
professional growth but provides me the confidence to share my views in front of the known
or known people. The development of this skill help to create good bond with friends where
me also able to share my views and thoughts. In academics, help me take part in functions
where I can deliver the speech in front of all (King, Williams and Gleeson, 2019). Also, able
to provide answer to all who have doubts. This will improve my academics and trust of
tutors that I am able to grab good position in end. While talking about the professional career
then I have an opportunity to hold higher positions and attain the favouritism from all the
different stakeholders due to the ability to deliver messages correctly along with resolving
the issues. This help me in future to take the decisions for business and lead from front in
market where I present myself as leader and present as an example in front of society.

The skill which I want to develop in future is related to Team Working.

I select this skill to reflect because this is importance in both personal and professional
career. This will help to creates good bonds at both levels and completion of work with the
support of each other.
This core skill is important for me in development of my personality that help to complete all
group projects in academics with my peers properly without any conflicts. Also, this will aid
in creation of bond where everyone has trust over my workings. This brings ability in me to
understand the views and thoughts of other and integrates their working in development
overall team plan. This creates the trust and positive working culture where we all
contributes optimally. In terms of professional, all businesses able to attain success when
good teams are existing within the organisations. So, my ability of building effective teams
provides the opportunity to hold good positions in big organisation as they know the
importance of employee satisfaction.

Currently, I am not good in team working skill. I am short tempered in nature and not able to
listen up the views of other when I have plan of action of working over some point. Many
times I fought with my friends as always asking to complete the things in my own style. In
respect to competence under this skill, peers and tutors are same views that I not the one who
is bale to build good teams and working with supportive behaviour.

No, there is no contraction with above analyse of mine upon the ability of building good
teams. I know about my nature and I also agreed with that I am not interested in listening to
others when I have plan of action.

This skill helps me in future through development of own personality where I develop the

skill that listen to the views of others and build the action which is more competent in nature.
In professional context this will help me to develop good teams in business along with
removal of conflicts from where able to attain positive results (Lewis and et. al., 2019).
3. Summary Action Plan
The three different skills identified in which I am not able to perform well and feel weak are time
management, public speaking and team working (Newman, 2019). It is also gathered from the
above analysis that all are important in nature to develop personal professional career. The
development plan in respect to all three is presented below;

CONCLUSION
It has been concluded from the above report that understanding of self and others is
important in terms of personal and professional growth. The perspectives of psychology are main
in direction of identifying information related to behaviour. The three skills identified be me in
which I am not good are time management, public speaking and team working. The skills will be
developed in future with the aid of action plan. This includes the actions that are needed to
perform to attain targets.
