INTRODUCTION Organisational functions are those activities that are important to be carried out for the purpose of operating a business organisation. This report will contextualise Sainsbury’s, British supermarket chain. This report will discuss about business functions and importance of functions working together. MAIN BODY Role of different organisational functions Marketing Marketing plays a very important role in success of organisation by undertaking market research. Market research allows helps in understanding customer requirements and changing demands of the customers (Magunduni, 2019). Other than this, marketing also involve advertisement and promotions, this is concerned with communicating and influencing potential customers. Success of this function contributes in increased customers and markets share forSainsbury’s. Finance This function involves management of finance of the company. Finance functions carry out several activities that are accounting, budgeting for different departments as well as for complete organisation and allocation of budget for different activities. Operations/Production This is concerned with the process through which input are converted into output. Production department along with production carry out activities such as identifying input and scheduling production. Production function involves identifying ways through which cost ofSainsbury’s can be reduced and also ensuring quality of the product. Production department plays important role in ensuring customers are satisfied with the quality of the products ofSainsbury’s. Human Resource
HRfunctioninSainsbury’sisconcernedwithfulfillingemployeerequirementsofthe organisation. HR function involves recruitment, selection, training and development, payroll management(ChenandWang,2017).HRfunctionidentifiesrequirementsofdifferent departments in terms of manpower and on the basis of that resource Sainsbury’s. Importance of functions working together Different functions are carried out in organisation in order to achieve and fulfil their individual objectives. But in order to achieve organisational objectives it is important that these functional departments work together are linked with each other. HR department is linked with every other organisational function and it is important as it fulfils manpower related requirements of every function in organisation and also undertakes training and development of employees of different functions ofSainsbury’s. Importance of working together with finance department of theSainsbury’swith other functions is to fulfil financial requirements of HR, production and marketing functions. This involves activities like budgeting, allocation of budget, determination and profitability and ROI of these functions. ProductiondepartmentisalsolinkedwithHR,financeandmarketing.Thismeansthat production activities are carried out on the basis of input received from marketing and budget and financial resources are received from finance department ofSainsbury’s (Hudson, 2018). Other thanthis, allHR relatedrequirementsof productionfunctionsisfulfilledby HR departments. This discussion outlines that in order to achieve objectives of Sainsbury’s effectively and efficiently its different functions are working together and each of the function of supportive for other function of Sainsbury’s. CONCLUSION On the basis of above discussion, it be concluded that for effective operations of Sainsbury’s it require effective completion of different organisational functions. Interrelation of different functions play important role in attainment of organisational objectives.
