1.0 Introduction
This report proposes to examine the impact of technology on gaining competitive
advantage in modern business environment. Globalisation and advancement of technology has
resulted in the change in modern business environment. Information and communication
technology has been become one of the key areas capturing and changing value. The major
technologies that have changed the foundation of modern business environment. It includes
mobile and cloud computing, machine learning, big data, intelligent manufacturing, clean-energy
technologies and advanced robotics. These technological innovations have been instrumental in
changing the way businesses operate in modern organisations. Disruptive innovation has become
one of the key areas focused on by major companies for remaining competitive in the modern
market.
1.1 Background of the study
Social media interaction is one of the most important technological innovation which
shows that information and communication has been the main factor in gaining competitive
advantage in the market. The combination of various modern technologies have changed the way
businesses operate in the modern market. These disruptive technologies have taken their time to
emerge and its shows that disruptive technology is essential for sustainability in modern
environment. Globalisation has increased the competition in the market where large number of
smaller businesses are competing on equal grounds with larger multinational organisations. It has
made it important for organisation to innovate for developing sustainable competitive advantage.
1.2 Research problem
The critical evaluation of past literary sources have shown that the contribution of
technology on modern business organisations have been measured. However, there is a lack of
study in examining the role of technology in generating higher revenue in the market. Moreover,
these studies have also failed to take into account the drawbacks and complications associated
with technological innovation implementation.
