Should All Organisations Have Perfect Sustainability Model?

The assignment provided consists of two essays on the topic of sustainability models in businesses. The first essay discusses the necessity of having a sustainability model for all organisations to maintain strong and long-run sustainability at large scale. It also introduces specific models such as 'Australian Ecologically Sustainable Development' and 'Natural Step' process, as well as three types of sustainability models: overlapping-circles model, nested-dependencies model, and legged stool model. The second essay presents an alternate view that all sustainability models are essential and effective for businesses to achieve better results and outputs within a predetermined time period. It highlights the benefits of perfect sustainability models in achieving competitive advantages and maintaining better reputation in the market effectively.

Essay 1 - “Are the organisations responsible for their workers conditions,
regardless of physical location?”
INTRODUCTION
Business sustainability is basically a process for managing financial, social and
environmental risks, obligations etc. of an organisation. An organisation's strength is its
employees and their safety is paramount as an organisation would not be able to function without
its workers. Every person has a right to be safe at work and it is the responsibility of an employer
to provide a high standard of safety at workplace. The employer ensures that the health of an
employee is not threatened or compromised because of the work.
POINT OF VIEW ON THE TOPIC
“Are the organisations responsible for their workers conditions, regardless of physical
location?” The organisations are responsible for maintaining the safety and health standards of
the employees as far as possible. The employer is responsible for the safety of the employees
regardless of the place and location, that is, even if the employee is a full-time, part-time, casual,
or seasonal employee, contract workers, agents, or trainees, the safety of the employees should
be paramount for the employer.(Willard, B., 2012)
The Occupational Safety and Health Act, 1984, it is mentioned that the standards are
maintained, meaning thereby a 'duty of care' is imposed on the employer irrespective of type of
employment he is providing. The duty of care provides a protection to the employees from both
the physical harms, such as unguarded machinery etc. and the psychological harms, such as
violence, discrimination, etc. Under the duty of care an employer is responsible for maintaining
the workplace, ensure the workers are not exposed to occupational hazards, provide training and
supervision to ensure work safety, consult and co-operate with the safety and health
representatives, provide protective clothing and equipment etc.
ALTERNATE VIEW
In the changing times the definition of workplace is changing as it is not limited to
physical environment, amenities, etc. The modern times are witnessing the transformation of
workplace by making the work move to the worker rather than moving the worker to the worker.
Now – a – days there is a concept of telecommuting introduced in the organisations as an
alternative workplace in which the employees are staying away from the physical boundaries of

an organisation but not on pretext of sick leave or strike but managing work from other place or
location. This method is being adopted because it is beneficial for the employer in many ways,
for instance, it improves efficiency and increases productivity. It could also be witnessed from it
that the employee morale is increased and there is better engagement and involvement in the
organisation.
CONCLUSION
It could be concluded that the employee, being an important asset for an organisation,
should have a safe and secure environment. The employer has a responsibility to protect the
health and safety of the employees regardless of the place or type of employment. The alternate
point of view suggests that the workplace is no more confined into the physical boundaries.
Though, the place or location of work could change but the working conditions should ensure
safety and health of the employees is maintained.

Essay 2 - "Should all organisations be expected to have a perfect sustainability
model?"
INTRODUCTION
Sustainability is identify as a problem to confronting entire business, no matter their place
or size in the marketplace. Progressively, organisations are analysing that embracing sustainable
practices guides to effective corporate culture, greater long term profitability and more reliable
products. Beside this all organisation should be expected in order to have a perfect and essential
sustainability model. Sustainable business is introduce as an organisation that has some negative
effects on the local or global community, environment, economy or society.
POINT OF VIEW ON THE TOPIC
All organisation should have sustainability model because it will support them to
maintain strong and long run sustainability at large scale. The model show the underlying broad
goals, ethical principles and measurable objectives. It includes as particular cases the more
limited models or framework of the "Australian Ecologically Sustainable Development" and the
"Natural Step" process.(Crane, 2016) These model also has a scheme for implementation and
development of ecologically and environmental sustainable development. According to the Bob
Willard, 2010, there are main three types of sustainability models such as overlapping-circles
model, nested-dependencies model and legged stool model.
All these are most effective and valuable model which should have to use by the all
organisation. This model will support an enterprise to achieve better outcomes and maintain long
run sustainability in marketplace. Such model also help all organisation to increase their sales
and profitability within given time period. In case of legged stool model, company can support
their employees to enjoy their high quality of life. Under, Overlapping circle model, this model
acknowledge the intersections of environmental, social factor and economic. For example: some
organisation leaders prefer to display the economy as the biggest circle because it is the essential
to their growth and it makes their globe go round.

ALTERNATE VIEW
All models are more essential and effective for the all organisation to attain better results
and outputs within predetermined time period. As per the point of view of (Benn, Edwards and
Williams, 2014) perfect sustainability model will support an organisation to achieve their long
term goals and objectives in limited time period. Sustainability model also support an
organisation to work with freely and achieve long term benefits in given time period.
Sustainability model also beneficial and essential for the enterprise to achieve competitive
advantages and maintain better reputation in marker effectively.
CONCLUSION
From the above mentioned essay, it has been concluded that sustainability model is
important and essential for the all organisation to retain long run and strong sustainability at
marketplace. legged stool model, Overlapping circle model and many other model should use an
organisation because it will help them in reducing conflicts and retaining better outcomes and
results in given time period.
