Arguments of Megan Kelly:
Megan Kelly has considered the comments made by Governor Palin as beyond vicious
with respect to the campaign with respect to her voters being “white trash” and her picture
resembling that of a porn actress look. She has also commented over the name that was used for
her daughter for being so offensive that it cannot be used on the broadcasting channel.
Validity of those arguments:
The validity of the comments are based on the personal attacks due to the section 2 (b) of
the Canadian Charter of Rights and Freedoms stating that every person is entitled to the right to
freedom of thought, belief, opinion and expression including that of the press and other media
involving communication modes. However section 1 of the Charter establishes that the free
expression shall be permitted within the perimeters of reasonable and justified comments in a
free and democratic society. Such freedom for press shall be limited by restrictions on comments
relating to discrimination, gender inequality, affecting social harmony, however, the concept of
expression being that of hate speech is not defined by the Charter.
Do you agree:
I agree with the host on the ground that the people of America and Canadians deserve to
be treated equally without any discrimination on the grounds of racism and sexism. The
comments made by Governor Palin about her voters and husband and her daughter was outright
sexist and racist comment and in violation of the Charter. However, the CBC Channel
Broadcasting the comment were unalarmed and they cannot be pursued for the claim against any
