PURPOSE
The report will discuss the Cancer Reserach UK Foundation which is UK's leading non-
profit organisation providing developmental support and emergency relief in the impoverished
areas of the world. The purpose of this research will be to know the background of the quoted
organisation i.e. what it does, the cummuniy it serves, programmes it runs and where it is
operating throughout the world with how many number of volunteers. Further, the study will
define the the NPO's aim, objectives, values and mission. It will describe the organisation's
structure and it's governance. The report will evaluate the NPO's source of funding and it's
impact on the community or society at large. The study will critically analyse the macro factors
by applying PESTLE analysis and SWOT analysis to identify the strengths & opportunities of
the organisation. Lastly, the research will be providing recommendations by prioritizing the
short, medium and long term goals.
Introduction
Cancer Reserach UK Foundation is UK based international Non Profit Organisation
which was established in 2003. It began with an school as education was the best thing that could
be beneficial in long run of the community. Keeping education as a key priority, they have
engaged in various charitable activities like providing shelters to the underprivileged, medical
aid programmes, distributing food, water, cloth to the survivors who faced disaster. It is the third
largest muslim charity in the UK and serve the widows, children of the muslim community by
furnishing education to them.
They are running programmes for the welfare of the society which includes Qurbani also
known as Udhiya where they sacrifice livestock and feed them to the poorest families all over the
world. Another project they are conducting is fulfilling the basic fundamental rights of the
people by providing them water. The organisation had built number of wells, handpumps, tube
wells, distribution of water, filtration plant, roller drum, de-salination plant in different parts of
the globe (Dharmawan and Dirgantara, 2021). Apart from these programmes like providing
livelihood, healthcare, nutrition & emergency facility, supplying food, shelter to orphans &
widows, giving training & education. Zakat projects is also one of the important project being
run by the NPO as it is one of the five pillars of Islam where an adult must have to do charity
from his wealth.

This organisation having its base in UK is operating locally, nationally and inernationally
to various countries. The UK branches had actively participated by helping families who were
suffered during the Covid-pandemic (Mikaresti, Meylani and Perdima, 2021). It has expanded
from Chile to Afghanistan to the Philippines and supported over 50 million needy people around
the world. Some other countries they had worked or are still working are Albania, Bangladesh,
Central African Republic, Ghana, Ethiopia, Kenya,USA, Yemen, Nepal, Syria, Mexico, Sri
Lanka, Rwanda, Zimbabwe, Togo etc.
Cancer research supported the prestigious London Charity day and more than 500
volunteers were offered the chance to serve charitable programme. They also run 8-week and 6-
week volunteering session for individuals who are willing to teach English basics. The total
number of employees in 2021 were around 101 which are further divided into permanent, part-
time and supply in UK. They are mainly dependent on volunteers.

Aims and objectives of company
Research Cancer UK is one of the fifth position in top 5 NGO’s in UK and it support
victims during emergencies and disaster. Along with this, vision of the company to be globally
respected non governmental organization know for quality of one time of services and excellence
in every sector. The mission of the company is to provide good quality services in area of health,
education, development, community, disaster management and women empowerment that
empowers as many as lives (Weiss and et.al ., 2020). Moreover, the company follow values
such as respect , integrity, excellence and commitment. The Aim of NGO is to create a good
environment for people and to support them in case of emergency. In addition to this, the
objective of company is to empower education, affordable and easily accessible health care
services as well as develop skill of rural area people for their livelihood.
Moreover, in order to maintain the functional unit of the company it has been following
hierarchical structure that follows a chain of command from the top management to middle and
lower level. Along with this, the structure is in form of pyramid and for each department there
is team leader and the junior mostly works in bottom position. There is vertical chain of
command and every employee is aware about their roles and responsibility at workplace. In
