STATEMENT
Wayne Bisset States: On Tuesday, November 21, 2017, I started from Geelong, early in the
morning at 9.00 AM, to reach Melbourne. On that day, heavy traffic was seen towards
Melbourne and hence, I was a little skeptical if I will be able to get a cab to reach the venue.
After waiting for 15 minutes, I was able to get a cab. I had to share the cab with a lady, she was
also travelling towards Melbourne and hence, she was more than willing to help me.
While travelling, I understood that the lady was a working professional as she was on call with
her team member. In her absence, her team was affected and she was rendering them some help
on how to run the software. She was sharing step-by-step instructions with them. After few calls,
she was free and she decided to relax. After relaxing for some time, she initiated a conversation
with me and the driver. The driver was friendly too. He started talking about his family members
and children. The lady shared few of her experiences at the workplace and the stress that she
needs to undergo on daily basis.
The conversation was fun and we three became friendly before we would reach Melbourne. We
were about to reach Melbourne in maximum of 15 minutes. It was about 10.15 AM. The car was
running at a speed of at least 60-70Km/Hr and all of a sudden, the car in the front stopped due to
some technical issues. The driver in our car didn’t get sufficient time to think and act on what
needs to be done to safeguard the car from getting into an accident.
The car suddenly bumped into the car in the front. The seatbelt, worn by the driver, was lose or
broke, due to which, the driver bumped against the glass in the front of the car. I was not in the
situation to support the driver, but I pulled back the arms of the lady because she didn’t notice
the upcoming accident. Holding her arms didn’t help much as I wouldn’t hold her completely.
While the accident happened, I was hurt the least as my forehead got hit against the front seat
and the lady passenger’s nose was hit against the front seat.
For few minutes, I was not in a situation to gather my guts to see around or help people around.
After 2-3 minutes, I opened my eyes to see that the front glass was completely broken and the
driver’s forehead was on the edge of a broken glass. I wanted to help and hence, I pushed the

door. Due to the accident, the door was locked and I was not able to push open it. The lady next
to me was unconscious so I lifted her face and noticed her bleeding, through the nose. I pulled a
water bottle from my bag and sprinkled some water on her face. She was conscious. In the
meantime, few people were around us, to help. I instructed them to help the driver as his
situation was very critical.
One person from the crowd called the emergency support team and ambulance for help. To
ensure that the driver’s situation doesn’t get even more critical, I lifted him from the backseat to
ensure that the glass doesn’t pierce deeper. The driver was unconscious and I was not sure on
how to help him as the wound looked deeper. We waited for the ambulance and the rescue team
to reach the accident spot. The emergency team was there in next few minutes. They broke open
the door and the driver was moved out safely. First aid treatment was done and after this, he
gained back his conscious. The emergency rescue team members were continuously talking to
him and he was responding to it, so I assumed that he would recover soon. Immediately, the
ambulance took the driver to the nearby hospital. The lady passenger was also rescued from the
locked car. Her nose was bleeding and hence, some first aid was done for her. Her nose was
hurting her but looking at the situation around, she felt scared. To ensure that she doesn’t faint, I
made her comfortable to sleep on the stretcher around. Another ambulance took her to the
hospital. I was completely fine and throughout the accident, I was helping the driver and the lady
passenger.
After all this, I got to know that the driver and the lady passenger are safe through some news
channels.
