INTRODUCTION
Project management is considered as one of critical aspect which assist in effective
accomplishment of diverse projects. By having an effective consideration of project management
practice the planning and effective management of changes within project can be referred
properly. It has been noticed that there are number of factors which need to be referred by
experts for effective development of overall project. Key areas which need to be referred can be
classified as staffing and management of people, manufacturing and production, quality
management, new business development purchasing etc (Turkulainen, 2011). Present study is
focused on case of Carillion. Project was initially failure due to number of reasons which has
impacted the overall development. It has been noticed that Aberdeen Western Peripheral Route
development was having various issues such as sharp turns and risky road shows. It has also
affected the overall cost of the project and impacted the overall development of project. In
present study, the diverse factors information will be provided which can reduce the risk for new
project plan.
Principles of project management
According to given case study, the selection of route for the road development was not
appropriate which has affected the overall significance of project. It has been noticed that
planning regarding project activities was also not according to key principles of project
management. It means the key issues in terms of principles need to be evaluated properly for
sustainable opportunities (Bredillet, Yatim and Ruiz, 2010).
 Project structure: In order to have effective development of project the appropriate
structure need to be proposed in desired manner. There are three key aspects which were
not properly referred at initial project of Carillion. Classification of key factors can be as
project goal, project timeline & order and project milestones. According to Bredillet,
(2010), it is necessary to have effective development of diverse junctures so that key
values of road project can be referred in desired manner (Bredillet, 2010).
 Definition phase: It is also significant for members to ensure that proper information is
being provided to stakeholders. By having an effective reference of such values issues
can be resolved in desired manner. According to Burke, (2013) project manager must
ensure that appropriate information about the risk and further factors is being provided to
stakeholders so that issues can be overcome (Burke, 2013).

 Clear goals: It has also been identified that proper goals were not being framed by the
project participants which has affected the design of road route. In this regards, the
SMART objectives should be develop. Along with this, the project manager has clearly
define the goals of the proposed project between the team members.
 Risk recognition: At the initial level the risk analysis about the project was not done in
appropriate manner. As per view of Caniëls and Bakens, (2012) it is considered as one of
key reason that the risk related to projects were identified delayed which has also affected
the cost factor in diverse manner (Caniëls and Bakens, 2012). It means the managers need
to focus on early identification of risk aspects so that issues can be overcome.
 Managing project disturbances: It is also significant for managers of project to have
effective development of diverse measures so that key issues can be identified in desired
manner. In addition to this, it can be said that by having an appropriate identification of
major disturbances in the work activities and try to manage them. By having an effective

It is concluded that project management is an essential approach for setting up new
entity. In this regard, reasons behind failure of Carrillion has been discussed as occurrence of
financial crises, imbalanced market structure of Saudi Arabia. Including this, significance of
project planning and its management is identified for which different ideas are generated
regarding expansion and managing impacted positive changes in the entity. Likewise, several
resources required for project on establishing new entity is recognised in this assignment. Along
with this, stakeholders' involvement in project plan as project managers and other workers is
recognised. However, what wrong has done with Carillion and ideas for its relaunching has been
discussed in terms of project management. In addition to this, project management concepts and
tools are determined for establishment of new entity and decision making regarding its further
operations.
