1. Research the following theories
John Adair’s (1973) model of interdependent functions of achieving tasks.
Jhon Adair’s model is also known as action centred leadership that helps in providing a
blueprint of leadership, management of any team, organization or group (Roe, 2020). It is a
simple leadership and management model that helps in understanding interdependence of all the
functions of an organization in order to achieve desired task. John Adair’s model help leaders in
gaining control over three main elements of this action centred leadership model, these three
elements are three main or core management responsibilities:
Achieving the task: it is done by identifying aim and resources. Creating plan for achieving
task, establishing responsibilities, setting standard and quality, controlling activities,
monitoring overall performance.
Managing group or team: this is done by establishing and communicating standards,
monitoring discipline etc.
Managing individuals: it helps in understanding team members individually, assisting and
supporting them, appraising their work etc.
Tuckman (1965) four stages of team life
Tuckman’s theory helps in understanding four stages though which a team can be
developed. Four stages of team development are: Forming, Storming, Norming, and Performing.
These four stages help in development of team’s ability and maturity by establishing relationship
between team members and leader. Four stages of this theory have been explained below:
Forming: it is a beginning stage where new team is formed but at this stage team members
are unsure of main purpose of the team (Jones, 2019).
Storming: Next stage is storming in which all the team members are pushed against
established boundaries. At this stage roles and responsibilities are not clear and team embers
might even challenge leaders or management authorities.
Norming: Third stage is norming stage where people stage to response their problem, and
start appreciating authorities or leader’s strengths. Members feel comfortable asking question
Performing: last stage is performing stage in which each and every member is aware of their
roles and responsivities and work with full potential.
