The medication which J.P is taking is an anti-epileptic drug. She is under this medication
since 11 years. Her complaints of a headache can be due to side effects of the medicine.
Sometimes due to prolonged usage of the drug side effects may come up. J.P is living alone
and also it has been mentioned that her job is stressful. There are few things she needs to take
care of so that the seizers should not return.
Firstly there is a requirement of regulating sleeping habits (Devinsky et al, 2016). It is
important to have a consistent schedule and have enough sleep. Keeping a written record of
your sleeping pattern will help. It is also important to limit caffeine for better sleep. Caffeine
should not be consumed before going to sleep.
It is important to identify the triggers which cause the epileptic attack. In J.P’s case, she had
her last seizure long back when she was young. She can ask her parents for any specific
triggers before seizures. Also, it is important to take medication timely and not to miss any
dosage.
J.P has work stress. Exercise can be also considered an option to reduce stress. Some
moderate exercise should be done on daily basis for better health and it will also help her in
getting distressed (Cole & Gaspar, 2015).
Stress works as a common trigger for epileptic patients. During stressful times counselling
can be tried to cope with stress. Regular ‘time outs’ can be taken like going out or taking a
short leave. It is important to give yourself time and also talking to your family and friends
regarding the stressful situations.
