Overview of the Case
A high school graduate Mike Scott, working as a receptionist at the headquarters of a
large corporation. Scott did not give much thoughts on planning career development however, he
wants to improve the economic conditions. Due to his qualification limitations, he is unable to
apply in any job and hence opt for additional course such as accounting. Unfortunately, Scott had
to face many failed interviews however, Scott was unable to match with the specification listed
in the job descriptions. Scott was disheartened, discourage and frustrated by the failed interviews
and due to his limited qualification. This was noticed by the department manager of the
corporation Sonya Munzo. Sonya Munzo noticed Scott lacks motivation and possess negative
attitude towards his qualification (Hirschi, et al., 2018). By analyzing the situation, Sonya
advised Scott to have positive approach during the interviews and be confident about his own
skills and qualifications. With the above suggestions, Scoot applied as an invoice clerk and was
successful in getting the job.
What are some possible reasons Scott did not seek or receive advice from his immediate
supervisor?
The possible reasons Scott did not seek or receive advice from his intermediate
supervisor due to the work relation of Scott with them. It is quiet hard for the employees to seek
advice and open up with their senior when the organization is quiet autocratic in nature. When
seeking advice or looking for help it becomes difficult to seek advice from senior and who is
probably your boss. When working as a worker ad a boss, the relationship is not like peers but as
employee and employer. It would be easier for Scott to talk with any other peer from the office
in order to seek advice. The other possible reason is Scott does not have any idea whom to ask
and from whom he shall take advice from (Vondracek, Lerner & Schulenberg, 2019). As it is
