4CAREER IN THE BEAUTY INDUSTRY company being big, small, new or old, they all experience the growth uniformly and are still able to thrive (Whyte 2018). Many national banks are starting to take notice of this growing industry and are offering financial support, unlike the situation in the past where many people of the economy did not take the industry seriously and could not have predicted its exponential growth in such a short time. It is helpful to note that it is the premium make-up brands that are turning out to be the fasted growing sector among other types of makeup, with a growth of almost 11% in the year 2013. However, not everyone in the economy can be expected to spend a lot of money on premium products, and there are many women who are finding comfort and effectiveness in cheaper drug store make up, which is giving these discount brands almost a similar boost in sales (Ramli 2015). As the economy is starting to take the beauty industry more seriously, global recruiting firms such as 24 Seven and the Cosmetic Executive Women (CEW) have teamed up to create the first report on the salary of employees in the beauty industry and also a thorough job market report along with it. This report will also be reflecting on the market climate that will be affecting the beauty industry and it will also highlight many beauty professionals at all levels and their view of the industry. Employees in the beauty industry have been seeing a steady increase in their salary, regardless if they are permanent or have just been assigned new roles in the industry (Bashir 2018). Although there is an overall increase in salary, 1 in 4 people are still dissatisfied with their salary, and this is the main reason these employees are exiting the industry. 2.2Skills, Knowledge and Experience Required: According to professionals that are already in the industry, the beauty industry does seem to be a tough market to crack. Unlike other jobs, a high salary is not proving to be a motivation to explore a job opportunity but the opportunity to grow in the industry is
5CAREER IN THE BEAUTY INDUSTRY becomingmoreofanattraction(Voigt,BuligaandMichl2017).Manyestablished professionals in the industry have said that when looking for further opportunities, they concentrate on the growth in the posting and how it will help their professional development. Companies that are not able to provide a career plan for their employees are seeing more employees who are leaving the job in around 6 months of getting the job. This type of job change is observed because the employees are always looking for ways to better their working experience, and if they are able to have any professional development in the work place (Ford et al. 2018). For a recent marketing graduate trying to get into the beauty industry needs to keep in ming that the companies put a very heavy emphasis on a candidate being able to be up to date with their skills and information. The marketing graduate is expected to know the certain trends of the companies and how they are faring in the economy that they are present in. They are also expected to know a big range of beauty products and their research must remain as thorough as can be. Current employees put a lot of effort into their personal development, those employees who perfect new skills have higher chances to be more engaged at work, and this would reflect to them being more loyal to the company. Along with information about the existing market of the beauty industry, a recent graduate who wants to get a job in this field need to be able to have the basic knowledge of which sector of the industry they want to get into. Once this decision has been made, more research into that particular sector is required so they have enough knowledge of the works of the industry. Managers are increasingly looking for employees who have a good grasp over their soft skills – qualities such as creativity, people-relationship skills and also their ability in learning new things.
6CAREER IN THE BEAUTY INDUSTRY Not all the information about the industry can be found online, a college student who is aiming to land a job in the beauty industry must do some fieldwork like working alongside some cosmetic professionals to see how the sales aspect of the industry works. For example, the student must look for some internships so they can get some hands on experience. Many professionals have said that the road to success in this industry lies in finding whatever one can find, in order to get experience – any experience is good experience. 3.Evaluation: There is a job opening at Charlotte Tillbury Beauty for the position of Marketing Coordinator, and this job opening really appeals to me mainly because of the fact that they are ready to accept recent graduate candidates for possible employment. Along with this, there are many requirements of the job that would requires me to be well versed in marketing strategies, something that I have already learnt in college during my classes. As mentioned in the beginning of this report, candidates are required to have a natural curiousity and interest towards this field to be able to passionately carry out their assigned work. Along with the job requirements, the company is also known to be one of the biggest beauty, fashion and self-care companies. The company has been around for almost 25 years and they have worked with various A-list models and designers. Being a beauty company, the majority of their target audience is women and the company goes beyond to empower women and not belittle their requirement for beauty products. A company like this would be the perfect place for me to start out so that I can establish my career in the beauty industry. 4.Conclusion: This report highlights how vital it is to be passionately interested in the beauty industry to be able to get a job in the field. For a recent marketing graduate to successfully land a job in this growing industry, it is very important for them to be fully aware of the overall scenario of

7CAREER IN THE BEAUTY INDUSTRY the beauty companies, and also take notice of its social media presence to get more an idea of how its customers are reacting to the company. Talking to a professional from the industry really gave me a greater perception of what I should be expecting once I graduate and dip my feet in to the beauty industry. Once I got to see the job opening for the position that I wish to strive for, it put things in a better context where I could measure myself against the requirements for the job and see what I need to accomplish, and also see how many of those requirements I can meet. Beauty industry is growing rapidly and some say that this may be just the start of this journey, and with this the employment criterion are also becoming more competitive. This would mean that I need to really know what I am deciding to get into before I can actually apply for a full time job in the field.
