Being a speech pathologist is open to my course because this job takes into account a psychology
degree but is not connected to the specific knowledge gained through the degree. Having an

experience delivering intervention programs to individuals is a transferable generic skill that I will
develop through my degree, but being able to do so to people with autism is something that requires
further study. Having a good tolerance for stress is stated in one of the skills required for this role. As
shown in my SuperStrong results, having good managing skills will help with this as I am more likely to
take control of a situation and cope with the stress. Good customer service skills and relationship
management are one of my potential skills shown in my SuperStrong results. This relates to my

Having this degree gives me an advantage as I will have transferable skills such as having the ability to
deliver high-quality patient care and support research and continuous improvement activities. An
essential criteria is to have a bachelor/masters of social work degree, which is something that requires
further study on my end. Wanting to be challenged and responding to the diverse needs of the
community is a skill required for this role, which is one of the factors that I value, but require more
practice in according to my superstrong results. My results also show that I enjoy working with people
and communities, which is one of the duties required in this job description.

Being a psychologist is traditional for my course: Master’s degree in psychology (clinical) as a required
qualification needed is to be fully registered with the Psychology Board of Australia under the AHPRA.
It is also essential to have a minimum of 3 years of experience in assessment and diagnosis, preferably
in a school environment or with adolescents and parents/carers. These experiences and qualifications
relate directly to my study area and are required to receive my Master’s degree.
The skills and duties required for this role relate to the skills and interests in my super strong results
as they both require a social work style and a hands-on learning environment. My results also show
that I have good people's skills, verbal ability, listening and showing understanding which is essential

My initital reaction upon looking at my occupational themes was shock, based on how accurate most
of the results were. I strongly agree to the results under the social and investigative themes, but not
so much the enterprising theme. After reading these themes, I am ready to encounter them in my
study and furthermore continue to build and strengthen my skills in these areas. My Top Occupational
Themes have further influenced my decision to study the course by assuring me that my current skills
and interests are directly related to my career. This will enhance and develop my skills which are
crucial for my career in future.
The suggested work activities appeal to me as they contribute greatly to my career goals, and I know
that participating in them will help me build my career even further. Most of the activities suggested
are my strengths and interests, except for managing and marketing. These are my potential skills but
not something I enjoy doing. I believe that getting involved with the social and investigative activities
listed will positively impact me as I will be able to develop and build on various related skills that will
be applicable in my career.
My work style is most important to me as it can have a significant impact on my productivity and how
well I work with others. I agree completely with the results, which reflects that I prefer working with
people and helping others. Helping others and working with people does not also require one to be
skilful but also have a heart that values people. These styles are activities that I enjoy doing on a day
to day basis and are essential in my future career. I will be able to incorporate this in my career
planning by looking for jobs that require these skills and interests.

What was this challenge? How did it impact you? How did you overcome or address the challenge?

A challenge that I have recently experienced is emotional stress. I was working more hours at my job
as a receptionist at a medical centre. The Covid-19 pandemic crisis that we are experiencing made it
more challenging. It was very challenging for me as I had to attend to more patients and address their
issues accordingly, whilst the phone was blowing up non stop with concerned citizens. Having patients

who were dishonest with their travel history and having staff panicking when the truth was revealed
certainly added unnecessary stress onto me. It was frightening since the rate of exposure to the virus
was very high. However, one of my colleagues noticed my mood change, from usually a cheerful girl
to someone who became closed off and silent. She approached me and asked me a simple three
words "Are you okay?" and within moments I had opened up to her. She was the first person to show
concern for my behaviour change and even cared about my feelings in the workplace rather than just
her own. After opening up to her, she managed to guide me through some stress-relieving tips and
help me undergo the issues I was facing in a better way.
What skills did you draw on in this situation? What skills did you develop in this situation? (150 words)
Through the situation above, I managed to learn therapeutic communication skills and decision-
making skills. I felt a great sense of relief after talking to her like a big weight lifted off my shoulders.
My problems were, of course, still there, but I learnt how to handle them effectively and efficiently,
without letting stress and emotion get the better of me. This made me realise that therapeutic
communication skills are essential when interacting with anyone, especially to those who are
struggling emotionally. Moreover, decision-making is also a crucial skill that each individual should
possess since it is applicable in any situation that one faces. Furthermore, listening to someone when
they are expressing their problems may be all the person needs to overcome the challenges facing
them, especially emotional challenges. Although I have always possessed good listening skills, I have
never really experienced it happening within me. This made me realise the importance of possessing
such a skill.
D. Using health concepts to add to your career reflection (400 words)
Reflect on how one social determinant (Week 3) has influenced your decision to come to University
to study your chosen course and prepare for your future career (200 words). Your reflection must
include a definition of your chosen determinant.
There are various social determinants of health. However, one that greatly influenced my decision to
come to study my course at the University is access to health care services. According to the National
Academic of Sciences (2015), Engineering and Medicine, access to health care refer to the use of
personal health services on time to achieve the best possible health outcomes. Therefore, I believe
that patients should be able to access safe and quality health care services. This motivated me to
study further in the University so that I can widen my knowledge. Moreover, I will be able to enhance
my skills and also develop new skills that will be crucial in my career. This will enable me to deliver
better health care services to the clients that I will encounter in future. My colleagues at work will also
be able to learn and develop new skills from me as we interact together, which will further improve
the outcomes of health care. Achieving the best health outcomes is the desired goal that every
healthcare (Mosadeghrad, 2013) and having well-equipped staff is one of the ways to achieve that.

My traditional career as a psychologist will likely intersect with service delivery, one of the six building
blocks of health systems. The World Health Organization formulated the six-building block to
strengthen the health system. This includes service delivery, health information systems, health
workforce, financing, access to essential medicines and governance (Manyazewal, 2017). Service
delivering refers to being able to deliver quality, safe and effective healthcare to those in need,
wherever they are and at the time they need, all whilst being cost-effective. Therefore, with a career
in psychology, I believe that I am well-equipped with the skills and knowledge needed to deliver these
services. I know that a big part of my role is to ensure that I deliver quality services to those in need
and that my career involves people’s health. Therefore, I have to strive to ensure that I consider
service delivery when deciding what is best for my client so as to deliver quality services. I am aiming
to work in a primary care department so that I can help people who require extra support due to
disadvantages from their environment (such as social status). This is due to the fact that I love helping
others.
