Assessment - Case Management 3A
Part 1 is a Scenario.

Information about the developmental status
Australian early development censes are the Government agency that provides information
about the developmental status, emotional condition and other needs of the child. Such index
could serve the purpose. Nearby health and judiciary organizations can be contacted to find
the past such incidents related to client. It is crucial to study related regulations and laws to
find depth of case. The service involved in analysing the development of children is
Australian early developmental census.
Developmental assessment
Recognized observation methods are used to measure the cognitive, social, physical and
emotional stage of the child development. Anecdotal records, running records, learning
stories, time samples, jottings, work samples, and photographs are the methods used to assess
the development of the child (Denton, 2017). It is crucial to indicate child’s growth to assess
his/ her health and nutritional status. Clinical assessment or reports for physical and mental
trauma can be obtained.
Assessment questions
The Health professional should begin the assessment with open ended questions to discover
the need of the child and closed ended questions can be used to help the child to express his
problems. For instance, which place he like, do he like going school or with whom he wants
to spent time. Such questions will give space to express himself. This will give an idea to
counsellor about the needs of child.

Initiation of the assessment process
Assessment processes begin with explaining the client about the importance of providing the
correct information. Because the attempt to provide wrong details may end up in the wrong
diagnosis. The health professional must explain to the client that the information provided
will be confidential. Initially, counsellor must build a rapport with client to gather correct
information of clients’ problems, needs and background.
Legal and ethical obligations
Duty or care means that one must anticipate risks for your clients and prevent them from any
harm. As a counsellor I must follow fundamental principles of legal and ethical obligations
such as integrity, confidentiality, objectivity, professional competence and due care and
professional behaviour.
Assessment tool for the mother
Alcohol use disorder identification test is the nursing tool used to identify the level of
addiction and related disorders. A set of the questionnaire is presented before the person and
he/she has to complete the questionnaire. (Bodell, 2017). Some counselling session in order
to help with depression could be beneficial along with medication.
Supportive services for the mother
Encourage the mother to seek help from deaddiction supportive services provided by the
Australian government. So, it is important to provide information about deaddiction
supportive services (Best, 2016) to his mother. Also, follow- up from such organisation is
important to solve the issue.

Child protection concerns
National Framework for Protecting Australia’s Children 2009-2020 is the child protection
concern that prevents the children from physical and sexual abuse (Coates,2017).Follow- up
session would be beneficial to check whether the objective of counselling is achieved or not,
that is, no potential harm is present for the child. The reporter of the child harm or injury
needs to call the child protection worker and provide details of the child, indications of harm,
reason for making the call, child’s location and cultural issues.
Follow up process
There are many organisations which provide support for such children and their families. So,
introducing the child and child’s mother to the government and non-government agencies that
support the child with the developmental problem and sexual abuse.
Part 2 is a Case Study
Techniques for effective communication
The primary technique for effective communication in children is listening. Use encouraging
words which stimulate the children to speak. Use non-verbal communication. Encourage
learning through imitation (Fan, 2015).
Strength based approach
In this case study, the child’s parents understood him. On the application of a strength based
approach, the Nurse can make the parents understand the child’s disease condition and
treatment (Rashid, 2015).
