In every aspect of life, cultural differences affects an individual where understanding
can helps in healthcare costs reduction and compliance improvement. Culture includes set of
beliefs flowing from generation to generation and having uniqueness. It affects individual’s
perception towards the world, information processing and practicing communication (Ho,
2019). Culture plays an important role in healthcare along with understanding directions,
preventive care improvement, medical errors reductions, and compliance encouragement.
These factors influences healthcare costs among the importance of good case management.
Individuals take their routines for granted consisting eye contact, orientation to time,
decision-making or touch showing different between religions, cultures and sub-cultures.
There is a chance of considering unethical in single culture such as of permitting a member of
family to dictate all decision making and medical care that might be an expected or accepted
practice for another (Care Excellence, 2020).
In healthcare, cultural awareness is important for shaping the health and illness
definition to sought care and treatments acceptability or not. It is essential to develop cultural
competence for case managers and clinicians critically to support patients over diverse
values, backgrounds and behaviours. In case management process, the assessment phase is of
an ideal time is given to identify cultural practices that may influence care plan based on
values, perceptions, and past experiences with illness, health, death, wellness and suffering.
Here, the cultural practices include impact planning and care that is perceptions,
relationships, and time, space and distance. Cultural differences impact interactions with
members and clients as well of the care team in the case management process.
