1CONSTRUCTION CLAIMS AND ROAD PROJECTS IN UGANDA
I would like to begin by saying that the completion of this project was a
great knowledgeable experience and also helped me to understand the
manner in which academic research projects are supposed to be conducted.
To be very frank, at the beginning I was not very sure whether I would be
able to complete this project because of the complexity involved with the
same and also the in-depth knowledge as well as skill that it required. As a
matter of fact, prior to this project I had never taken the help of the research
methodological framework or for that matter collect data or even analyzed
the same. However, through the constant support of my Professor and also
my Supervisor I was being able to not learn about the same but also to
effectively use the above mentioned aspects for the completion of the study.
The first hurdle which I faced was the selection of a research topic that
was not only contemporary in nature but also I would be able to manage
effectively. Thus, I researched about different topics and initially I was not
very sure about the kind of topic that I should opt for. However, one thing I
was very sure about that, namely, I wanted to select a topic that was not
only contemporary in nature and also important from the perspective of the
my own nation. The resultant effect of this was that after researching a great
deal on Google I came across the topic of delay in the completion of the
different road projects within the nation of Uganda. After undertaking an in-
depth research on the concerned topic I was being able to find out that the
construction claims were an important factor that substantially contributed

construction claims were an important factor that substantially contributed
towards the delay in the completion of the different road projects within

Uganda and thereby adversely affected the growth or for that matter the
development of the concerned nation. Thus, I decided to conduct my
research on this particular topic so as to spread the required awareness
regarding the damage that these construction claims were causing to the
nation of Uganda and also recommend the manner in which they can be
resolved to facilitate the completion of the different road projects within the
nation under discussion here.
However, soon I realized that the selection of the research topic was
perhaps the easiest of the hurdles since after the selection of the research
topic I was faced with the arduous task of formulating the research aim,
research objectives, research questions and other important aspects on the
basis of which I would be completing the entire project. In this relation, I
would say that I am a proactive kind of a person and thus I read numerous
peer-reviewed articles and even sought the help of my Professor, Supervisor
and my friends for overcoming this particular hurdle. Next, I undertook the
task of review of the past scholarly literature related to the impact of
construction claims of the different road projects within the nation of
Uganda. This was an easy task since I was being able to some insight peer-
reviewed articles which while helping me to gain insightful knowledge about
the research topic under discussion here also helped me to complete the
literature review section of my project.

The selection of the different components or for that matter the
elements of the research methodological framework was actually a very
difficult task for me since it was completely new for me. However, through
the help of the knowledge that I have gained from this course and also with a
little from the internet I was being able to select the appropriate research
methodological framework which in turn helped me to complete this section
of the project. However, at this particular juncture I would like to say that
perhaps the biggest hurdle which I encountered was related to the collection
of data and also for the analysis of the same. In this relation, I would like to
say that initially I thought of collecting primary data through the usage of the
tool of interview from the different contractors, workers, government officials
and others. However, when I approached some of the contractors and the
workers they were not accessible and the data which some of the individuals
who allowed me to interview them offered me were not of much help. Thus, I
had no other option left but to take the help of secondary data for the
completion of the study.
The usage of the secondary data in turn gave rise to another problem.
I was not sure regarding the kind of sources which I need to use for the
completion of this since not all the websites or the web pages offer credible
as well reliable information. Thus, I decided to take the help of only those
websites which were credible and also registered in the nation of Uganda.
This as a matter of fact helped me to realize the importance of the pragmatic
philosophy and thus I decided to analyze the research topic selected by me

through the usage of multiple perspectives, viewpoints and others. The
usage of the secondary data helped me to effectively attain this particular
end and thereby became the ideal one for the conduct of this study. Lastly,
the framework of thematic analysis is a completely new one for me and I had
to spend numerous hours on the internet reading different articles to
understand the manner in which thematic analysis is being done for the
analysis of the secondary data. Thus, I firstly formed numerous themes and
by following the technique of inclusion and exclusion was being able to
finally select four themes which were most relevant to my research topic and
thereby undertook the data analysis on the basis of the same. In the last
chapter of the study I summarized the entire study and also proposed
recommendations on the basis of the findings of the study.
I would like to say that during the entire course of the project I had
tried to adhere to academic standards of conducting research work and also
the research ethics that the researchers are required to follow for the
completion of their study. For instance, in order to avoid plagiarism I gave
the due credit to the different scholars as well as the authors whose works I
used for the completion of the study by way of in-text citations and also a
reference. More importantly, I had also tried to structure the entire project as
per the academic conventions of conducting research works. In the light of
these aspects, I would say that this was a true learning experience for me
and also helped me to gain the kind of skill sets as well as knowledge which
are likely to help me in future. Thus, I would actually like to thank my
