INTRODUCTION
 Sustainability may be defined as ability to exist and is defined as process of people maintaining
the change in the balanced environment.
 Sustainability simple means the meeting the needs of present generations without
compromising the ability of future generations to meet their need in the future.
 Sustainability is based on three pillars which are environmental, economic and social which are
socially known as planer, profit and people.
 It is important for the country to set their sustainability goals and work towards it, sustainability
encourage to frame the decisions in terms of decades or years in order to improve the standards
of people living in the country.

1. Accessibility- travelling to a destination like costa Rica is just
like thought of having the adventure and thrilling thoughts. A
thrilling thought will be like surfing, hiking by the rain forest
and the amazing beaches. But this place is a big no for the
travellers having the disabilities.
2. Amenities – Number of facility is being provided to the
traveller by the hotel and the travel agency. The travellers are
given the total guidance.

 Attractions- Costa Rica is the wonderful destination with all the natural attraction like
volcanoes, beaches, cloud forest and the wildlife. The thrilling experience of scuba
diving and non diving experience along with the hiking, waterfall rappelling surfing and
the thermal pools.
 Accommodation- The country is having the high quality of hotel with all the services
available in them. The hotels are available at the beaches as well as the high mountain
level. But the cost of living is such destination with all the facilities available to them is
quite difficult. So the government is trying to change the policy and the taxation to attain
the sustainability.

 Activities- the various activities that can be enjoyed by the traveller on the destination of the costa
Rica is the canopy tours, surfing, white water rafting, sport fishing. The more the destination is
famous for zippling and the scuba diving. The traveller will feel relax on the beaches and thrill on
the mountains. Much food and the beverages are also famous for the place such as the eat a copo.
The one of the major attraction in the costa Rica is the fiestas civicas. The localists and the
government of the country is looking after the various rules and regulation are needed to put in the
consideration for the development of the sustainable.
 Additional Services- there are many other facilities that are available in such destination other that
the amenities and the accommodation are the health care facilities and safety service are provided
to the traveller of the destination.

2. Impact of tourism on local community and environment and to
bring the sustainable development in the destination
The impact of the tourism on local environment-
Positive-
 There tourism is the country used to create the employment opportunities to the local community along with
entrepreneurship development opportunities. The local community can have the upliftment of there local business.
Due to the increase in the tourisms, the employment opportunities increases which automatically increase the
standard of living amount the local community. Infrastructure development also take place as to provide better
service to the tourist.
Negative-
 Due to being the tourist destination a certain hike in the price of the commodity or the services arrived. The country
costa Rica is one of the country having the maximum unequal distribution of the income level.

The impact of the tourism on environment-
Positive-
 The concept of the ecotourism is there on the environment it will bring the
awareness among the tourist about the preservation of the environment for the longer
run (Charter and Tischner, 2017). Tourist used to gain the knowledge about the
ecosystem and the conservation efforts.
Negative-
 Overexploitation of the resources are done to provide maximum satisfaction to the
tourist. The infrastructure activities had increased in the hike as the problem of the soil
erosion and global warming have been developed

3. Actions taken by Costa Rica in reference to SD goals proposed
by UN
 Human Development and Social inclusion: Under this
come the reduction of poverty through comprehensive
and social care programs for the families and households
which are headed by women and people with
disabilities.
 Environment, oceans, energy as well as land use
planning: Under this come the aim of strengthening the
sustainable use and conservation of natural, genetic and
cultural heritage from marine and territorial systems.

 Agriculture and rural development: Agricultural sector of Costa Rica has witnessed
decline over past 40 years and in order to meet SDGs within this sector government of
Costa Rica has decided to increase the agricultural value and to give make
improvements in productivity as well as sustainable development in rural departments.
 Tourism: Current strategy which has been adapted by Costa Rica has resulted in
uneven development of this sector which is marked by differences within the
distribution of income that come from tourism sector (Biermann, Kanie and Kim,
2017). Now government of Costa Rica has decided to pursue the strategy of sustainable
equitable and supportive development in tourism sector.

4. Crafting the new and original events matching with
characteristics by focusing on sustainability of the destination.
Before the Event
 Raising awareness: Country should raise awareness in schools, colleges, in public by
spreading the knowledge of maintaining sustainability and what actions are to be taken.
Sustainability can be promoted through media throughout the event.
 Location: A location chosen should be such that it should boost the circular economy
solutions like public transportation.
 Agreement: All the partners who are involved in the event should enter the agreement
for achieving the sustainable solutions throughout the event and get the agreement signed
from them.
 Workshops: Various workshops on 17 SDGs should be organised for the event partners
who can rethink over how organise the event by focusing on the sustainability of the
country and to make it most sustainable event.

During the Event
 Energy efficiency and renewable sources of energy: This mega event will require huge
energy like electricity, fuels, etc (Holmes and et.al., 2015) . This event will be organised
by using 100% of renewable source of energy like wind, solar, water and biogas.
 Environmental Impacts: People will be allowed to eat the local food which will result
in less wastage of food and energy and also it will increase the income level of locals.
 Evaluation: Event organisers should earn Eco-Compass certificate in order to carry
sustainable actions during the event.

After the Event
 Challenging other event organisers: Once the event will be over, event organisers should challenge
other event organisers of the country to organise their events in the same sustainable manner. Working
together with sustainability and contributions from each and every member or visitors of the event can
help Costa Rica in achieving 17 SDGs in the future.
 Maintaining the sustainability after the end of the event: After the even will over, event organisers
will help the government of Costa Rica to work with them in achieving the goals of sustainability
(Murphy, Lane and Bauman, 2015) . Also, keeping the people reminded about the event's theme of
sustainability by posts special video, pics, etc which will remind the people about the goals.

CONCLUSION
 Above report concludes that for any country it is important to maintain the sustainability in
order to make the country better for living and raising the standards of life of the people.
 Present report also discusses the Costa Rica is one of the destinations for the tourists which
has got the major components of tourism available in the country like the accessibility,
amenities, accommodations etc.
 It can be also concluded from the report that tourism has a strong impact on local
community as well as on the environment and for which government and the local people
has to play a major in achieving the sustainability goals.
