INTRODUCTION
Health and well-being are the most significant elements required for longevity and to live
a quality life. Effective nursing care is required to be possessed to help out patients' in
encountering with their illness (Mikkonen and et. al., 2016). This study is based on a case in
which a child, Rohan who belongs to lower community is suffering with type 1 diabetes.
Different requirements of him and his family from the health services are explained. Further,
three priorities of nursing care associated with the present case are discussed. This study also
involves strategies to engage with the child and his family to develop trusting relationship.
Besides this, based on the present case scenario three mainly required nursing care are also
described so that an effective plan can be prepared.
PART 1
Physical, social and cultural needs of the child and his family.
In the present case, the health care approach is aimed on a 9-year-old child, Rohan who is
suffering from type 1 diabetes Mellitus. He belongs to a rural community which makes the case
becomes more severe in different perspectives such as social, cultural and physical. There are
different requirements of Rohan for getting the effective results of the medication. As mentioned
in the case scenario, he was not having proper diet according to his illness. It is required that
effective plans should be prepared for all the communities. The child was not taking the food
according to the diabetic diet plan as his family is vegetarian. In this case, a health coaching is
required covering all the do s and don't s to deal with the illness.
Besides this, syndrome of his mother and his diabetes signifies that there is less focus on
the rural people. It has been thus observed that government and NGOs should focus on the
upliftment of the community health services so that such patients can be treated properly (Adam
and et. al., 2017). In contrary to this, Rohan also needed affection from his family but it was
missing. In fact, he does his insulins by himself as his father went early in the morning and his
mother sleeps at that time. In his family, he have three younger sisters which may have some
disease so proper assessment of them is needed.
Three priorities for nursing care based on the issue of present case scenario.
There are numerous priorities of nursing care such as developing practice and quality of
care, financial responsibility and sustainability, creating satisfaction, effective communication
with the patients' and family members, person-centred care etc. (Holloway and Galvin, 2016). In

present case, firstly, it is needed that the nursing care should be up to the mark. The quality of the
care rendered by them should be effective enough to assist him in recovering from diabetes.
There are several things which will be required to enhance the quality of the care such as health
education, effective planning of nursing practices, etc.
The care provided by nurse should emphasise more on communication. High level of
interaction with the patient and his family is considered as the most crucial part of community
health service (Peppard and Ward, 2016). It will help in understanding their perceptions related
to the services. This will also assist in building a bond between the patients and the healthcare
professional and through which the boy can explain all his issues comfortably.
In addition to this, it is also required that the assessment of all the family members of
the Rohan should be performed. It has been observed that her mother is also suffering from a
syndrome and he has three younger sisters. Community health service centre should ensure
appropriate medical check-ups of them so that if there are any diseases then that can be identified
earlier. In present case, as the patients belongs to a rural community and thus, a kind of financial
responsibility is associated with the nursing care (Lewis and et. al., 2016). It will be better if the
less or no charge of practices taken from the Rohan's family in his treatment. Apart from this,
one more element that a nurse or healthcare professional do is to educate the parents of patients
so that they can take good care of him in encountering his disease.
PART 2
Strategies to engage with the child and his family to develop trusting relationship.
Nursing care is highly dependent of the trust that a nurse or healthcare professional gains
while treating the patient. Also, it is very necessary to develop trusting relationships with the
patients and family members. There are numerous theories that can be used to build the better
relations. Some of them are explained below in detail: Relational / interpersonal / communication theory: According to this, it is necessary for
healthcare professionals to have high level of communication with the patients' and their
families. This interaction will help in forming a bond which will make themselves
comfortable in talking to each other (Cherry and Jacob, 2016). This comfortableness will
help in building trust. In present case, Rohan is a 10 year old boy and thus, high level of
attention is required for him. However, communication with children is an easy process.

 Family-centred theory: According to this theory, nurses and healthcare professionals
should create healthy relationships with the family members of the patients (Coyne,
Hallström and Söderbäck, 2016). Family members are the closest to any persons and one
can share things with them easily and hence, community health service providers should
involve the parents of Rohan in their decision-making process. Also, they can collect
information about past medical history from them. Further, the care should be provided
as per the needs and demands of his/her family so that quality can be attained. Child rights theory: There are number of laws, rules and regulation built in favour of
children and their rights. In context to the healthcare also, there are some child rights
which should be followed by the community health service providers (Adam and et. al.,
2017). Nurses and other healthcare professionals should talk nicely with children and
should keep patience while treating them. These factors will help in achieving the trust of
child. Cultural safety theory: In case of rendering health service to the refugees and migrant
groups, it is necessary for the nursing staff to maintain cultural safety in their health
services (Cherry and Jacob, 2016). In present case, Rohan and his family are migrants in
Australia from past two years. It must be recognised that from that time his mother is in
depression which means, they need cultural safety too. Thus, if the service providers
includes cultural safety in their plan then it will help in formation of trust between such
communities and community health service providers.
 Development theory: This is collection of visions of different theories to implement the
desired change in the society. As Rohan and his family belongs to an underdeveloped
community so if the community health services takes any step towards the development
of poor or financially challenged people then it will directly help in building trust
between those people.
Thus, these are some strategies that can be used in nursing care of Rohan which is to be
rendered by community health service centre. These techniques will aid in developing trusting
relationship between the healthcare professionals and Rohan & his family.

great help in enhancing the quality of
care (Adam and et. al., 2017).
CONCLUSIONS
Community health service providers aims on rendering best nursing care to the people
belonging to poor financial background. In this study, an effective plan is developed for a 10-
year-old boy suffering from diabetes. In order to perform this, different strategies of improving
the relationships with the patients have been discussed. Also, three priorities of nursing care
associated with the present case are also explained in this report. Besides this, different physical,
social and cultural needs are also identified to ensure that the care is provided in right direction.
