Introduction
The given case study is about the problem that the company Gradability is facing due to
any error in their assessment of the students papers which were submitted in the dedicated
Moodle but did not receive any grades. This caused the delay in the reports of the students as the
grades did not get to the RTO manager, however, the Moodle is showing that the assignments
have been submitted by the students and also graded by respective trainers. The below report
emphasizes on this case scenario and investigates the probable cause for it.
Discussion
The given case study describes the problem in the Moodle due to which the RTO
manager cannot obtain the grades of the students who have submitted their assignments in the
Moodle and also they have been graded by the respective trainers. In order to investigate the case
of Gradability, various technical and sociological aspects must be considered (Chard, Tuecke and
Foster 2014). The key stakeholders in the given case scenario is the students, the operations
manager, the help desk support and the academic administrator. The system in the company is
designed in such a way that the grades will be automatically updated to the RTO Manager in
every 24 hours. The method that is used for this data migration is the SFTP (Secure File Transfer
Protocol). The fact that the RTO manager did not receive any grades of the students can be
related to the loss of data factor or the intervention of any third person into the system. The
technical reason related to this factor is that the Moodle is automatically updated and thus lack of
training among the employees of the company may be one of the factors affecting it. The SFTP
have certain authentication methods for the login purpose of the administrators and the students
and the trainers in the Moodle and generally SSH keys are used as pass keys (Bergsma et al.

2014). However, there is also a possibility of the fact that the SSH may be cracked by any third
person in order to manipulate the grades. The company should also consider the fact that the
Moodle is a server were the students upload their solutions and it might also have any technical
glitch, due to which the data were lost.
The investigation of this data loss may be started by analysing the Moodle and also by
checking that what number of students have uploaded their solution in real time (Isa et al. 2014).
The next process may be regarded as the through scrutiny of the Moodle architecture and
contains and search for any unauthorised login credentials and by this if any third person had
accessed the Moodle in order to manipulate anything would be clear to the administrators
(Elnaga and Imran 2013). The loss of data may be also another factor which has caused the loss
of the student’s grades and such a case can also be found out by checking and uploading
anything in the Moodle. The lack of training of the employees in the organization might be
another factor causing this problem, and in such a situation the credibility of the employees must
be rechecked (Arakelyan 2013). The issues can be resolved by training the employees in a better
process and also by educating the students and their trainers in the process of Moodle operation.
The administrator and the RTO manager should also be informed about the SFTP features and
operating standards so that they might have a clear about the operation of the Moodle. The data
that are handled in the Moodle can be made secure by updating the Moodle passwords and the
SSH keywords.
Conclusion
The case study given about the company Gradability and its failure in the Moodle
operation has been studied in this report and an investigation has been carried out in order to
examine the issues that might have caused the problem in the Moodle. The above report

concludes that the fault in the Moodle can be because of the technical glitch or any breach by any
third person in order to manipulate the grades.
Recommendation
The investigation of the above case study depicts the various issues caused in the
company’s Moodle and it can be recommended that the security features of the company must be
updated and strong SSH keys must be implemented in the SFTP. The employees of the
organization also needs to be trained in a better perspective in order to handle the Moodle in a
better way.
