Issue:An undocumented woman from Mexico failing to communicate with police to file
complaint due to language problem.
Individual: Bella a 45 years old undocumented women from Mexico.
DESCRIPTION OF AGENCY
Agency: Family Justice Center
Type of clients seen: All the domestic violence victims as well as their children.
Services offered: provide service to their domestic violence victims so that they can get all the
required services that are needed by them to safely escape the abuse such as legal advocacy
regarding domestic violence, counseling, shelter information, safety planning etc. color.
DESCRIPTION OF MODALITY
Bella is an illegal immigrant from Mexico who do not have any kind of legal documents
and came to United States in 2000. She lives in New York city with her husband and four
children.
IDENTIFYING DATA
Individual:
Age: 45 years.
Gender: Female
Physical Appearance: An average 45 years old lady with short height.
Culture: Follows christian culture.
Family:
Family composition of Client: Mother, husband, one son and three daughters.
members engaged with the agency: There are almost 50 members in Family Justice Center
agency.
PRESENTING PROBLEM
Individual:
Client's perception: Bella wants justice as she has been abused by her husband for years and as
the local police were not able to help her due to language barrier. She wants the Family Justice
Center to help her (Simmons and et.al., 2016).

Agency perception: Agency always help clients like Bella but as she is an illegal immigrant she
might face some might face some legal issues during her journey for justice.
RELEVANT HISTORY
Individual:
Schooling:Bella has done eight grade level schooling.
Family origin:Origin of her family is Mexican.
Relationship: Relationship of Bella with all her family members was good except with her
husband.
Risk or vulnerable factor: There was only one risk factor in her case and that was that she was
an illegal and undocumented immigrant.
History of trauma: Abused by her husband for years.
RELEVANT CURRENT INFORMATION
Individual/ Family: Bella's living and financial condition was not good as she needed donation
and was currently living with her mother. Her marital condition was not good as her husband
used to abuse her for years. The only family support she got was from her mother and brother
and social support she got was from Family Justice Center.
ASSESSMENT
Individual:
Summary statement of the Case: Bella is an Undocumented woman from Mexico who currently
lives in new york City with her mother. She has been abused by her husband for many years.
Due to language barrier she failed to file a complaint against her husband as she speaks Spanish.
Obstacles: One of the main obstacle in her case is her language as she cannot understand English
and only speaks Spanish.
Client's Strengths: She was a strong woman as she had tolerated her husband abusing her for
years. Not only this despite being an illegal immigrant she took a step forward and asked for
justice.
Client's vulnerabilities: Except her mother and brother she had no where else to go with her four
children.

Life transition issues: Married woman with four kids and continuously abused for years is a life
transition issue.
Risks in Client's situation: Is an illegal immigrant living for many years in United States is one of
the main risk in client situation.
Family:
Relationship of Client with her family members: Her relationship with her mother is extremely
good as she is living with her currently.
Strength of marital relationship: Main strength of her marital relationship is that she has been
married for 21 years.
Sibling Relationship: She has one brother settled in California and her relationship with his is
quite good as when she moved to US she was living with him.
Communication Pattern: Speaks Spanish
INTERVENTIONS
Bella is been provided with legal advice i.e. what she can do and what she shouldn't do.
She will also be provided with continuous counselling, information regarding shelter information
i.e. where she can live what she can do for living etc. What are the legal procedures she needs to
go through, what will be the problems she will be facing during the procedure. Currently her
complete legal advisory process is going on.
TERMINATION
Client system will try to bring justice to her as despite being an illegal immigrant she has
faced many problems and she was a victim in this situation. So Complete Family justice centre
agency worked hard so that she can find justice and can live peacefully with her family.
POLICY PRACTICE
Immigration and nationality Act policy has always affected agencies work with their
clients in the current final placement as immigration department are always against unlawful
immigrants and work as a hindrance in agency's work (Dreby, 2015).
