INTRODUCTION Air Force cheating scandal has considered as a critical unethical practice in which number of Air Force officers and authorities were involved. Cheating and other unethical activities were took placed in Air Force Academy in Montana (DeWees, Hitt and Lindsay, 2014). Number of unethical practices have been identified in the Air Force base such as drugs use, cheating in exam, alcohol use, etc. which have impacted the overall culture of organisation. LEADERSHIP OF AIRFORCEBE A MAJORCONTRIBUTORTOTHE SCANDAL As per the consideration of case study, it can be said that number of Air Force officers were involved in unethical practice so leadership of Air Force can be considered as a major contributor to the scandal (Greg, 2014). It has been spotted that students of Air Force Academy were not involved in the cheating but the group of Air Force officers was involved in unethical practice. In support of this, it can also be stated that unethical practices like cheating and drug use have impacted the perception of followers in a negative manner (Tadimety, 2014). As per the case study, it can be said that in year 2008, the chief of Air Force and secretary were fired after the failure of oversea nuclear mission. This kind of activity has impacted the morale of Air Force officers in a negative manner. Other than this, it has also been spotted in the case study that general of the Intercontinental Ballistic Missiles force was also terminated after the incident of involving in heavy drinking. Moreover, two officers were also involved in drug addiction (Stiehm, 2013). According to the evaluation of case study, it can be said that continuous involvement of senior leaders in unethical practices has influenced the perception of followers in an adverse manner. It is also one of key reasons that Air Force officers were involved in cheating scandal (Cooper, 2014). Firing and termination of leaders have impacted the morale of other members which has increased the negative aspect within culture. It also indicates that new leaders of Air Force do not have involvement with the followers that have boosted negative aspect within environment (Göbel, 2014). It is also one of key responsibilities of leaders to ensure that followers are not involved in any kind of unethical practice. Cheating in examination is also loop hole of leaders as they are accountable to measure the standards of officer’s proficiency test. In other words, it can be said that termination and ethical practice of Air Force leaders were took placed in year 2008 and cheating incident has taken placed in year 2013. It means that change in leadership has also impacted the Air Force base culture in a negative manner (Stanfield, 2015). CONCLUSION As per the consideration of above statements, it can be concluded that leaders of Air Force were 3
the major contributors in the scandal. This is because unethical practices performed by top leaders has impacted other member’s perception in a negative manner. It has also been spotted that lack of effective leadership and improper consideration of measures by leaders have also created an unethical environment within organisation. In order to overcome the issue, leaders must focus on proper evaluation of diverse work practice standards and leadership skills. 4
