Environmental pollution can be defined as introduction of harmful chemicals and harmful
substances in the environment. Pollution is one of the major problems that are faced in America
as well as the entire globe. It has become a global problem and issue since many years. The
effects of environmental pollution not only destroy and contaminate the environment but also
have a disastrous effect on human beings, animals and plants. Environmental pollution
contaminates the natural surroundings and adversely affects the living beings and non living.
Pollutants and pollutions affect the normal lifestyle of the human beings. The major pollutants
include waste materials. It is considered to be the biggest menaces that are faced by the world.
The increasing amount of pollution in the world, the contamination in the surroundings is
directly linked to some diseases that are occurring today (Harrison and Roy). This is evident that
environmental pollution is increasingly becoming a serious global issue that is needed to be
addressed sooner. The global environmental issues can be solved with the entire cooperation of
the entire globe.
One third of the top soil of the earth has been degraded. There is an increasing rate of soil
degradation because of improper agriculture, deforestation and careless industrial activities. In
United States almost 40% of the rivers and lakes are extremely polluted which affects the marine
life(Bayne et al). There has been untreated storm water, untreated sewage, industrial waste and
other forms of waste are being discharged in the oceans, seas, lakes and rivers (Bayne et al). The
causes of pollution are not only due to excessive use of fossil fuels and carbon emissions but
other types of chemical pollution in the water bodies and improper disposal of waste, improper
industrial practices and the agricultural activates have been the major causes of environmental
