As older adult population is rapidly growing worldwide, there are many factors impacting
on health and well-being of people and their illness through the later life course. Successful
ageing has become most popular and hot topic nowadays, it is very basic and important concept
to describe as well as discuss about the quality of ageing. Basically, successful ageing is termed
as high social, physical and psychological functioning in old age people without having of
harmful diseases (Lamb, 2019). The concept of successful ageing is multidimensional in nature,
here the major focus is how the people need to expand functional years in a later life span. This
particular concept has been developed from biomedical approach to a wider understanding of
psychological and social adaptation processes in later life cycle. There are various terms relating
to this particular concept which involves active ageing, ageing well, healthy ageing and
productive ageing.
It has been said that everyone living in this world can age successfully, by taking care of
their mental health, physical health and cognitive health. This terms are very essential for healthy
aging. People needs to make some changes in their daily life structure and way of living to live
longer and better. Even making small changes can help them live healthy life. Generally, people
are following steps like daily yoga, finding peaceful environment, regular exercise and healthy
food meals. In general, they can support their health by staying active in their daily lives,
sleeping well on time and going to the doctor regularly. But do you think this is enough to age
successful (Partridge, Deelen and Slagboom, 2018). Of course not there are some other factors
also which must be taken into considerations such as:
Keep learning and growing
learning new things, hobbies, skills and developing encore careers will help people age
successful. Learning new things will not only help in maintaining cognitive abilities but also
increase mental peace of people.
Don't feel limited by age
it is also very important for people to not just limit their enjoyment. If they have enjoyed
certain activities throughout life, it is suggested to continue them. Like many people at old age
started learning things. For example- grandparents in UK would go dancing into 80s. They love

dancing and singing and many older people loved other activities too. This is the reason behind
they can age successfully.
Cultivating some social connections and make strong relationship
Older people always think that doing some exercise and eating a healthy diet is enough
for them. As people get older, their metabolism naturally slows down which can impact their
mental and physical health so it is essential to consume healthy meals such as vegetables, whole
grains fruits and Mediterranean diet. Some old people are keeping their eye on consumption of
sugar which can lead to harmful diseases like weight gain, high blood pressure, diabetes and
many more. To mitigate this and reducing this problem it is essential to cultivate some social
connections and make strong relationship with each other. For example- make connections and
maintain friendships with younger and older people working in the firm. This can enhance
workplace environment because the place where people work and learn together is always a
happy place (Balkaran and et.al., 2022).
Successful aging has grown in popularity over the past few decades, at some point in life,
people become more concerned about aging and want to know what to expect, ways to adapt,
things to be avoided. There are some main factors which are included in successful aging such as
interacting with each others in meaningful ways
being free of any harmful disease
being free of disability
having physical abilities
having high cognitive abilities
older people from age 70-90 says that successful aging involves focusing on what is
important in life and being able to do what people want to do in old age. Some people say that
age 60-70 was one of the best times in their life cycle, they like to spent time to travel with
family and friends.
The challenges faced in an ageing society and how one can support them
It is well-known that as a society we all are living a better and healthy life. All thanks to
health related facilities which is given by government, living conditions and health care
providers. While being able to reach old age is something to be thankful for, in many ways there
are different types of issues and challenges facing the elderly. People are focusing more on their
health and paying more attention. Good health and health care facilities are key to a successful

aging society. In UK, improving health care facilities is bringing about better health for people.
People are making ageing better by securing a better future for everyone and transform later
lives. The major problem which is faced by old people are poor health condition, social isolation
and loneliness. Nearly half of the elderly are fully dependent on other people like family
members, friends and care providers. This is the reason they want emotional attachment with
their loved ones.
Financial insecurity
many people are facing financial issues at old age. The world of employment and
retirement has not evolved at the very same pace. Many elderly people are not getting
opportunities even want to work past the standard retirement age. In addition to this, handling
daily finances and planning for later life is quite challenging for old people as much is now done
online and remotely. Due to this changing world of digital, they face problems like scams and
fraud. The another potential challenge which is faced by old age people is old age income
security which is usually seen in this old age population (Maresova and et.al., 2019).
Finding the right care provision
as all know that many people who are at old age need additional care and support.
Sometimes this care can be provided by family members, friends or loved ones. But this can
place a lot of strain on the care giver in terms of balancing work life and personal life. They are
surrounded with family responsibilities. For old people, it is quite challenging to find the right
care provider. These caregivers need to be given proper training sessions, resources, tools, and
techniques. Old people need emotional support which help them live longer life.
Difficulty with everyday tasks and mobility
a person's mobility will naturally decline as they age, which makes them difficult with
everyday tasks. They are unable to complete task on time, so more support and emotional
support is needed to enable elderly people not only to live independently through programs
which focus on fitness, safety and balance.
Access to health care services
healthcare can be complicated for old age people, especially for those who are struggling
with long term conditions or any harmful disease. These type of old people require more support
of care providers. But in many cases, old people face this issue and unable to have access to

health care services. The care requires lots of different medical professionals to coordinate
delivery of medication and various types of support and care to them (Balkaran and et.al., 2022).
Change in perspective
a rapid increase in the aging population leads to the perception that a change in
perspective on old age is really necessary to understand. It is essential to deviate from the
negative aspects of old age associated with loss of functions, emotional support, illness, mental
welling and weakness. People are more focusing on improvement of quality of life in old age,
changing perspective is a quite challenging for them with respect to healthy aging (Van Hoof,
and et.al., 2018).
Increased expenditure on health and Shifting disease burden
healthcare expenses can result in better provision of health opportunities which can help
in increase human capital as well. It helps in improvement of productivity as well as
performance. However, increased expenditure on health leads to burden on people of old age. As
there is an increase in drug prices, this leads to increase in financial burden and wellness
(Partridge, Deelen and Slagboom, 2018)
