CHANGING ROLE OF HUMAN RESOURCE MANAGEMENT
There has been a drastic changes in the role of human resource and the definition of the
profession over the years due to various economic and social environment. This has led to the
evolution of HRM over the years. In the 1900s it was seen that duet it advent of various
manufacturing industries and employers the management focused on the strategies to enhance
the organizational efficiency compared to their competitors (Deadrick & Stone, 2014). Their
main aim was to develop new approaches to manage workers and help them perform better.
However, in the present condition the role of HRM is more of a strategic partner as there are
recognition that human resources are critical for the function of the industry. At present the HRM
role is more to retain employee and create employee engagement. Such as change in HRM role
was created because of increasingly transparent job market and the spread of social media and
job review websites such as Glassdoor and others (Deadrick & Stone, 2014). Thus, they have to
maintain their retention rate to show the world that the company is a good place to work. The
future holds for HRM is to engage themselves as a creative part of the business that could come
up with strategies that will keep employees happy as well as benefit the organization. This means
that the role will be two sided to offer career development as well as cost management. Thus, to
prepare for future career in HRM field I need to be creative enough to engage with the
employees and strong convincing power.
