restrictions during communication in order to allow him or her to express the problem
and need for help with ease. As the client continues to express, the worker must no

interrupt the client and allow to him or her to speak freely, followed by active listening
by the worker. The worker must listen carefully to the client’s need which will not only

2. Reflection and Empathy: The workers must reflect upon what the client has spoken
about and then empathize or place themselves in the shoes of the client. This will not
only lead to understanding of the client’s reasons for seeking help but will also allow the
worker to fully understand what the client is going through.
3. Cultural competence: The worker must communicate on the basis of the cultural
background of the client and be sensitive to their unique and diverse ethnical, linguistic
and spiritual beliefs, needs and preferences.

Personal information that is protected by the privacy legislation refers to the Privacy Act
of 1988 in Australia, which outlines the regulations to be followed for safe handling of personal
confidential data. Examples of such personal information include a person’s name, their
signature, residential and contact details, birth records and additional details of medications,
bank accounts, opinions or commentaries.

1. Provision of informed consent where the counselor must explain about confidentiality
and the which information will be kept confidential along with usage of state laws which

The purpose of an SDS assessment tool is to provide essential information on hazardous
chemicals, their nature and composition, the resultant physiological risks, procedures for
emergencies, storing and handling and steps for their safe disposal.

the staff can conduct feedback procedures in the form of surveys or questionnaires which can
contain questions enquiring about client’s level of knowledge on the organizational principles
and services.
