Introduction
The following essay will look at how Curriculum can impact the learning and the
development of the child. It will look at how the Reggio Emilio Theory can be applied to the
following context. It will also look at how my own experiences in the field of education can
be used to benefit my practice on the subject as well.
Curriculum and Impact
An organised learning experience is defined as a curriculum (Frost, et al, 2001). A curriculum
is important in the child’s learning process, since it offers a structured way of learning for the
child. Curriculum often varies from country to country, and can also vary from individual to
individual. A teacher in Sweden, for example, might believe that music is an important part
of the curriculum and it is necessary for students to learn it. This might not be the case in the
United States of America. However, curriculum models are socially constructed, and are
composed by both politicians and educators.
Curriculum has a huge impact on the learning and development of the child. There are many
milestones that are decided by society on learning. For example, the level at which children
can read and write is a major milestone in most countries. A child at a certain age should be
able to read at a certain difficulty level (Sawchuck, et al, 2006). This is important for the
child to succeed. A curriculum provides a structured path for the child to reach the milestone
that is required of them. In the absence of a curriculum, it would be hard to measure the
development of the child. The curriculum might be very simple, but for the child it shows
significant progress and change. A curriculum aims to improve the learning of the child, by
providing a context to the learning. The context must be in relation to the society. A
curriculum that is centred around the child will improve the child and their learning
