This paper discusses alternative approaches to improving child and family welfare, focusing on the child protection system in Australia and the indigenising children's services approach. It explores the underlying causes of social and health problems and the impact on indigenous communities. The paper also examines working with Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander and CALD children and families, as well as the improvement of culturally and linguistically diverse communities. Overall, it provides a critical review of the child welfare system in Australia and suggests ways to enhance family welfare and child benefits.
