This case study analysis identifies the rescue which are being called operation and project. Moreover, suggested the rescue story about the variety of way management can be used in modern world. Further, analysis the project which use the trait in above rescue and classified the study of project.

INTRODUCTION
This case study is based on Rescue of Chilean Miners which is known for mining
accident of year 2010, there were 34 workers of gold and copper mine from San Jose gold were
rescued from Chile (Sriyakul, 2019). This mine established in 1889 where 3 members were died
in accident. The report is identifying the rescue which are being called operation and project.
Moreover, suggested the rescue story about the variety of way management can be used in
modern world. Further, analysis the project which use the trait in above rescue and classified the
study of project.
MAIN BODY
Why is the rescue being called a project and not an operation? What elements of a project do you
find in the case study?
This rescue is being called project not an operation because project are related to
something temporary in the nature and also undertaken by producing the unique product. On
other hand, operation is called as ongoing execution of all the activities which are occurred after
the case is happened with same repetitive services. There are some elements which are found in
this case study such as it was very hard to communicate with those people who are trapped in the
mines (Iansiti and Lakhani, 2020). There were no food and water was supplied for two days, at
that condition the goal of the people are not simple about survival, stretching and conserving and
after 17 days other employees gets information about them and organization start drilling hole in
the shaft ceilings. The first challenge were seen as they are alive and then management supply
food and water, medicine.
What does the Chilean miners' rescue story suggest to you about the variety of ways that project
management can be used in the modern world?
Nowadays there are people who are belongs to specialized in the rescuing job for those
who are trapped or injured in the mines which are underground. Also, people are using
equipment which are related to safety lamps with oxygen, most of the death are happened due to
poisonous gas. Moreover, lifeline pulleys, communication system and lighted vests for rescuing
more than 100 people at a time (Ufua, 2020). Also, there are designed the rescue pod which are
coming directly from NASA 's engineer who can drew with his experience as the submarine
captain in navy by conceiving 20 people team which can developed and carry the miners from

the surface. Doctors from NASA clearly helped the person who were rescued after long time
when they need to set their mental state of mind. The US also provided expert driller, so he can
help the American forces by the operating bases with the help of drilling machine. Further, there
were the rescue capsule which is called as phoenix, that can arrived with more than under
construction by shipped in two weeks (Osman, Mohammad and Chelliapan, 2021). It is designed
as the cylindrical tube which is 13 feet (ca. 4 m) long and weighed 934 pounds (0.42 t) by the
interior width of 23 inches (0.58 m). These were equipped with harness and oxygen that are also
called communication equipment and retractable wheels.
From the case study analysis, are you able to identify the following project characteristics?

 This project is unique because it has been very long where people are stayed at that place
where no food with less oxygen till the two months. For rescuing them the team
coordinate with them after 17 days but still all the people are motivated and feels hope in
order to rescue by someone.
 That type of projects are temporary because this is accident not a planned scene that is
why this project is temporary endeavours and it is hard to do the same thing. For the next
time organization are aware about the safety of the workers who are working workshops.
 These projects involved cross-functional team which are expert in achieving for common
goal with the all level of organization. In this project expert are coming from NASA
which are related to the submarine experts as well as doctors (Johannessen, 2017).
 As relation to the project there were defined scope that the team will rescuing people live
with safety of them. Also, they were supply food and water with the messages which can
be felt communicated with the outside environment. All the people are motivated
themselves in order to stay safe which can be perfect solution of getting nervous.
 There were so much risk and uncertainty involved in the project because if the
organization not get the information about the people they were died at that place. It was
very hard to rescue people from all way deep.
 In this project there were high funding involved because it has taken very long time for 2
months the team needs various types of equipment which are need high funding nd
accommodating expense of special team charged a lot.

Successful project management requires clear -organization, careful planning, and good
execution. How were each of these traits shown in this rescue example?
For any successful project there need proper management style and careful planning with
good execution. In this project all the traits are shown according to following example:
 Organization hires the expert team which are helped in order to rescue the people from
the mines. Also, company has taken early decision for rescuing people, it prepares the
team for the same and set the realistic expectations. Also, the role of project leader plays
very important role where people are standing at the point of death (Ruben, De Lisi and
Gigliotti, 2018).
 It needs careful planning and takes 2 months for successful of the project, where the
group of people help to contribute in the miners spirit while they were under grounded.
That is why other people are come to communicate with them daily and passing the
information related to their family and friend so that it can motivate them.
 Good execution are needed for the project because the planning was very good at that
time. It was being able tos convince the bunch of people who have different interest the
goal of all of them are same.
Do you think that the rescue might be termed a program instead of a project? Why or why not?
No, I am not agreed with the statement because project is representing the single and
focused endeavours on other hand the programmes are called as collection of projects that are all
connected with the package of work. There are different project are need to complement for each
other and assisting the program by achieving the overall objective of the organization. The main
motive of the organization is to rescuing people from the underground mines this is the last and
first project for the team (Malaza, 2020). After the successful completion of the project there
were no link with this project again. Beside this, programmes are consisted of managing the
projects for multiple time till the completion.
Projects can be classified as Mandatory (Compliance/ Must do), Strategic, and operational. How
would you classify the case study project?
This project is based on the strategic management because it has used many strategies
and planning in order to rescue the people outside. In this situation there are first strategy is used

as the rescue capsule in which is known for Phoenix. In this capsule there were oxygen cylinder
were used with the harness and applied for two types and realized that this is not going to be
perfect. For the next strategy is used for the avoiding the technical problems which can recover
the man safely. Also, organisation hires the team directly from NASA that are help the people by
providing them mental care which were most needed at that time.
CONCLUSION
From the above report it has been concluded that this project is based on the accident in
which there are people rescued from the mines. In this report study about the Difference between
project and operation and found the elements of the projects which are used in case study related
to surviving and planning. Also, identified the various modern techniques of which can help in
rescuing the people from that type of situation. Moreover, the case study analysed about the
characteristics of the project such as unique, cross functional, defined scope etc. Further,
explained the example of traits which are shown in the successful planning of the project. Lastly
case study explained the term related to project and programmes.
