CHRONIC AND CONTAGIOUS DISEASES PART TWO 2A.The scope of practice:DefinitionThe scope of practice refers to the authorized processes, actions and procedures that acan be performed by a registered professional("Scopes of practise - Medical Council of New Zealand", n.d.). An individual’s scope of practice grants them the authority to carry out certain tasks (NMBI, 2018).Example from practice:I Visited a mother and 7months old baby who is affected by eczema, the mother reports to me that she has visited the GP last couple of weeks, and the GP prescribed baby with a cream to apply all over baby’s body. But it seems like it’s not working at all, it’s making it a lot worse she says. Mum asked if she could use another cream that she had used on her older child before, yet it might work.An informed mother that it is out of my scope of practice to give her an answer on what might work for her child but the best thing is to revisit the GP and I will report back to the Plunket Nurse to follow up on her of concerns.Reference:NMBI, N.
