Ancient and Early Classical civilizations sought to create stability out of chaos. Religious or
philosophical ideas, political institutions, and social (non- explicitly political or religious)
arrangements provided the easiest places to do so. Describe and compare the ways in which
different civilizations used religion/philosophy, political institutions, and social arrangements
to provide stability.
Different civilization used different approaches to attain their stability, protection and
territories to rule via the implementation of various philosophical ideas, political institutions,
and social (non- explicitly political or religious) arrangements. For example, the Indian
civilization used religious approaches which brought the society together. Buddhism for
instance united the people within the community under one ruler who managed to provide
stability among the members of the religion. Other civilization such Greece on the other hand
relied on political institutions, and social (non- explicitly political or religious) to attain their
stability (Nissen, 2011). This enables them to invade other territories and acquire more states
under there conquest such as the Persian Wars which was between 500 to 479 BCE (Martin,
2013). During this era the Battle of Marathon Greece was able to show its independence in
concurring the Persians without the help of Spartans. This helped them gain more confidence
in the army. As seen a comparison between the two tends to draw a difference between the
Indian civilization and the Greece civilization. In both cases an organized governing body
was attained which represents a characteristic of civilization.
Religion played such a huge role in different ages of civilization for instance Mesopotamia.
Judaism managed to unite the kingdom which was governed by the old testament or Torah
(Oppenheim, 2013). This provided a set of guidelines hat help the people within the kingdom
to interact and grow the kingdom. This helped provide a structured governance body which
introduces us to different rulers back then such as Saul and David (Nissen, 2011). This
kingdom was later concurred due to the corruption of the religion which affected the
