INTRODUCTION
The sustainability is being defined as fulfilling and meeting the current needs without
affecting the requirement of future generation. For the businesses to be successful it is very
necessary that all the operations of company are being undertaken in such a manner the future
working is also safe and secure (García-Muiña, and et.al., 2020). The reason underlying this fact
is that the sustainable working will ensure that all the work done is good for current and is also
beneficial for future period as well. the current study is based on Climework which is a company
founded in year 2009 and is headquartered in Zurich, Switzerland (Climework, 2022). The
company claims that their large metal devices will be assisting in slowing down the different
challenges relating to climate change. The current study will be outlining the different roles and
responsibility which is being performed by both the partners in becoming a strategic partner.
Along with this the different tools of strategic business management for solving problem of
sustainability will also be highlighted. In the end the ethical and economic dilemmas faced by
strategic leader will also be highlighted.
DISCUSSION
TASK 1
Evaluating roles and responsibilities of Christoph Gebald and Jan Wurzbacher as sustainable
strategic managers
For the successful working of the company it is very necessary that all the managers and
CEO work in proper and appropriate way so that objectives of business can be attained. Hence,
this is very important for the company that the owner or the managing employees plays a crucial
role within managing the work in proper way. In the present case of Climework, all the work was
being managed by Jan Wurzbacher and Christoph Gebald and they play a crucial role within the
correct working of company and attaining the business objectives in appropriate way. In case the
role played by them is not in accurate pattern then it will be affecting the working of whole
company to a great extent and objectives of business will not be met.
Also the company follows all the four models of strategic business management that is
formulation, implementation, evaluation and modification. In the stage of formulation, Gebald
and Wurzbacher plans the objective which they need to attain. Thereafter they try to implement
the planned outcome and direct the employee to follow all the strategies. Further, the evaluation

of the implemented work is done that is whether it is in accordance with the planned approach or
not. At the end, in case any deviation is found then modification for improvement are being
done. Becoming a good strategic manager is essential for the successful working of company. for
this Jan Wurzbacher and Christoph Gebald have made many different strategies and process for
making the working better. They both planned to remove 1 % of CO2 emission from the
environment by 2025. This was the aim and for this many different strategies were also
formulated by them in order to meet the objective. For this they implemented strategy to form a
DAC that is Direct Air Capture plant to be installed on top of the roof for waste incineration to
be run by Swiss municipal. This will help the company to meet its objective and improve the
efficiency of business. further for the evaluation they undertook the use of variance analysis to
evaluate that whether there is any difference between the planned performance and actual
performance or not. There after according to the outcome modification are to be made so that
planned performance can be attained effectively. The major role played by both of them for
becoming strategic manager are as follows-
In the views Hristov and Chirico (2019) of The first and foremost role being played by
both the CEO is that they focus on building a strong corporate culture within the company. This
is very necessary for the reason that when the culture of the company will be worthy and cordial
then it will be providing a proper base to the employees to work and they will be working
professionally resulting in improving the working capability of company. When the managers or
the top management will be focusing on maintaining decent culture then automatically the
employees will be motivated to work in better and adequate way.
Furthermore, another part performed by Gebald and Wurzbacher in managing the
strategic working and leading to become strategic manager is to focus on cost reduction. Zhang,
and et.al., (2019) suggested that the reduction within cost is the major aim for which the business
works and in case it will not be implemented then it will be affecting the efficiency of the
business to a great extent. hence, it is an important part of manager of Climework that they must
be focusing on cost reduction as well so that profitability can be enhanced. This can also relate to
financial resource monitoring benefit. This is pertaining to the fact that the resources are very
scarce and optimally using them can be a benefit of powerful strategic business management
which improves the working of company. for this aim of both was to reduce the cost by $100 per
ton so that efficiency is being improved.

Along with this, Ansoff and et.al., (2018) stated that Gebald and Wurzbacher also have
part in managing the work is that they must work on evaluating the economic viability of the
project. This is very necessary for both the managers to test the viability with regards to
economic aspect and feasibility of the project before initiating it. This is very necessary for the
reason that in case the project will not be analysed and whole amount will be invested then it will
be affecting the efficiency of the project to a great extent. Thus, for this both Gebald and
Wurzbacher need to analyse the economic viability and feasibility of project and then only invest
in it. Along with focusing on viability and feasibility it will also assist Gebald and Wurzbacher in
directing work in accordance to law. All the working will be lawful as managers are focusing on
economic viability and for this they will comply with all the laws and regulatory requirement
which is another benefit of using these strategic business management tools. For managing
viability, both aimed that even they can wait half a year with position unfilled rather than hiring
any person. This implies that they focus on viability of project most even at any cost.
Moreover, with this essential part performed by Gebald and Wurzbacher is in hiring. This
is also very necessary for making the working practices sustainable. This is because of the reason
that the company can only become successful when the employees will be good. With regards to
this, it can be stated that employees are the one who actually works and in case they will not be
efficient then it will be affecting the capability of project to a great extent. hence, for this both o
the manager believes that hiring the right and appropriate candidate is very necessary for getting
successful (Haseeb and et.al., 2019).
They also believe that keeping the position vacant will be beneficial rather than hiring
any kind of person that is the person which is not suitable for the position. This result in benefit
of improved and updated human resources. This is pertaining to the fact that when appropriate
candidate will be recruited then they will be working with efficiency. Resultantly the working
condition will be enhanced and objectives of business will be attained in appropriate form. For
instance, both Gebald and Wurzbacher believed that providing benefit to employees like
including on- site yoga classes, social events, fitness events and others is beneficial to retain and
attract existing and potential employees.
With this it can be stated that having better working capability and management to have
an important part is very important for the success of the business. in case the managers and top
management will not be performing their duties worthy then the sustainable working will be

affected to a great extent. thus, Gebald and Wurzbacher plays a better part in becoming a
strategic leader and manager and manage work in a way which will result in attainment of
objectives of business.
Discussing strategic business management tools and aspect
In the views of Höse, Süß and Götze (2022) For the business to be working in better and
correct way, it is very necessary appropriate strategic business management tools and theories
are being used. This is very crucial for the business Climework to successfully operate so that its
objectives can be met easily. The use of these models and theories assist and guide the manager
to work efficiently so that the efficiency and decision making can be improved. The company
operates in external environment and there are many different types of changes which need to be
adapted by the company to work better.
For this the major theory or the model which Climework need to comply with is the
human resources based theory. This is a theory which states that human capital is one of the most
important element for the better operation of the company (Steiss, 2019).
It is particularly because of the reason that without human resource not a single activity
or function can be done within the company. Hence, this model assists the company in utilising
the human resource in such a way that they are optimally used and all the objectives of business
are being attained in intended format. This theory also combines the resources based view with
the human resource based theory which makes the working more constructive leads to managing
the work in correct format. This is because of the reason that when all scarce resources will be
used optimally then it will be improving the working capacity and capability of employees. This
will further result in proper working and attainment of objectives of business.
Along with this the application of survival based theory is also helpful
for the operative management of the company and attainment of its
objectives. This is very necessary to be applied for the reason that survival
based theory is the one which focuses on fact that companies need to
continuously adapt to the changes taking place in the external environment
for smooth functioning of company and to maintain competitive
environment. The company exist in external environment which keeps on
changing continuously and in case these changes will not be adapted then it

will be negatively affecting the working efficiency of company (Bogers and et.al.,
2019).
thus, for this, the compliance with survival based theory will be guiding
Gebald and Wurzbacher and employees of Climework to work in accordance to the latest trends
and working in better mode. Thus, the compliance with survival based theory helps Climework
to manage and adapt to the latest changes so that working pattern and trends are updated and
work is done in appropriate and ethical way.
In addition to this survival based theory, de Faria, Santos and Zaidan, (2021) suggested
that contingency theory is also assistive to Climework in managing their work in better and
adequate way. This is necessary for the reason that this theory states that there is not any fixed
pattern of working and it totally depends on the situation prevailing within the market. The
reason underlying this fact is that it is not necessary that once the strategy is selected then it will
be applicable within the company for a longer period of time. It might be possible that the
strategy become obsolete or might not be prevailing with respect to modern working
environment. Hence, this theory will be assistive to Climework in managing the work in better
and adequate way so that objectives of business are attained in proper and adequate way.
According to García-Muiña et.al., (2020) this theory guide, Climework to adapt to the
strategies based on the situation prevailing within the market and comply and use those strategies
only. The use of latest strategy will be assisting Climework to provide with proper knowledge
that in which situation what kind of strategy will be assistive and beneficial to follow.
TASK 2
Discussion relating to economic and ethical dilemmas which strategic leader faces
While working in external environment Xie, Qi and Zhu (2019) argues that there are
many different types of issues which Climework can face. This is particularly because of the
reason that company exist in external environment and there are different areas where the
manager might be in quandary that whether they need to adapt a particular thing or not. These
impasses can be either based on economic aspect or ethical aspects. These dilemmas are being
faced by Climework in case of balancing the short term and long term goals of the business. thus,
it is very crucial for the management of Climework that they must choose the option wisely so

that the working is being managed in appropriate way and goals of business are attained
properly.
With the evaluation of the case study it was clear that there were different ethical and
economic dilemmas which were faced by Gebald and Wurzbacher and managing working of
Climework. The first and foremost ethical issue faced by company was the stakeholder
arguments. Numerous times, company has to take decision which might affect the working of the
company and can bring clashes among the stakeholders. The stakeholders are the one which
works for the betterment of the company and are interested in growth and development of the
company. thus, when any decision need to be taken then it can affect the working of the
company and can result in clashes among stakeholders. This is an ethical dilemma wherein it is
difficult for the company or the top management to decide that which stakeholder requirement
need to be followed. This is particularly a confusion because when one stakeholder will be
followed then it might affect the working of other stakeholder and their interest as well.
In addition to this, appropriately using the charity principle and stewardship principle
also sometimes become a dilemma for Gebald and Wurzbacher. The reason underlying this fact
is that there are different types of principle within the working which can affect the working of
the company. thus, here there might some confusion arise among Gebald and Wurzbacher that
which principle they must follow to manage the work accordingly and how to improve it.
Along with this another economic issue being faced by Climework was the cost
controlling. This is the major issue for the reason that controlling the cost is the most important
concern for the management of Climework and this will be affecting the decision to a great
extent. Now the dilemma is that there are many different types of strategies with help of this cost
can be controlled. Now it is the responsibility of Gebald and Wurzbacher to decide which
strategies to be used by them in order to control the cost. This can affect the working of the
company as there is dilemma that which strategy is to be used. In case they will select some of
the strategy and other management people are not liking it then it will be affecting their working
capability. On the other side, this will demotivate them and they will not be in position to work
better. Thus, this is the major dilemma which can affect the working capability and capacity of
the company in order to complete the task of cost reduction.
Hence, it is necessary for Gebald and Wurzbacher to manage the dilemmas in such a way
that it does not affect the performance of the company in negative aspect. Thus, for this both
Document Page
Gebald and Wurzbacher need to focus on correct style of leadership and its use in management
of work in better and adequate way. There are different types of leadership style like the
autocratic, democratic, laissez faire and transformational hence, it is necessary for Climework to
appropriately select the correct and most suitable style of leadership for managing work and
attaining business objectives. For this Gebald and Wurzbacher must comply with combination of
transformational and democratic style of leadership. the reason underneath this selection is that
transformational leadership will be assisting both the managers to adapt any kind of change
easily within the business. on the other side, the democratic style of leadership will be allowing
company to take into consideration the views of others employees as well before finalising the
decision.
CONCLUSION
In the end, it is concluded that the maintaining of supportable working is very important
for the company to attain success. This is necessary because sustainable working focuses on
attaining current requirement by focusing on future working as well. the above report evaluated
that manager or the top management perform necessary role within the better capability and
working of company. the major role played by management of Climework that is Gebald and
Wurzbacher included maintaining good culture, analysing economic viability and feasibility,
adapting to technology and others. The report also highlighted that there are different types of the
theories and model which manager of Climework can use like survival based, human resource
theory and many others. In the end it was outlined that there is different type of economic and
ethical issues are faced. These issues include cost control, stakeholder argument and others
which can affect the working of company to a great extent.
