INTRODUCTION
Aged care refers to establish an effective system in order to caters for people having age
of 65 years and above who are not capable to live without support in their own home. It includes
number of clinical practices and procedures which provide support to senior citizens to spend
their lives in comfortable manner (Heslop and Glover, 2015). However, it is necessary to given
proper care and support to senior citizens which facilitate to make them feel comfortable to
spend healthy life properly. The present report is based on the topic of aged care in which
effective practices and procedures are carrying out for supporting senior citizens to remain
healthy and comfortable. It will focus on reason behind selecting the given topic and relevance of
the same with evidence of literature. The gaps of skills, focus of the project and benefits gained
by learning specific skills is described here. This assignment will discuss about implications of
learning of skill related to aged care.
MAIN BODY
Relevance of aged care with the evidence from literature
Aged care is very important to save senior citizens from complications of old age life
with the help of providing them support in conducting activities of daily routine for remaining
healthy and comfortable. It is necessary to analyse this special area to be discussed because such
aged individuals requires proper care and support in order to remain well-being and spend
comfortable lives. As per view of Kaye Ervin, Irene Blackberry and Helen Haines (2017), it has
been analysed that the concept of shared decision making (SDM) is helpful to provide more
appropriate services. However, it involves to share own views with specific old aged patient and
gain their opinions in order to conduct favourable supportive practices by maintaining comfort
zone of an individual. In addition to this, it is necessary to determine possible occurrence of
barriers which create problem for implementing theoretical framework of shared decision
making consist lack of education among staff members and family members of patient in respect
of implementing the technique of SDM.
According to the opinion given by Karl Krajic, Martin Cichocki and Viktoria
Quehenberger (2014), the residential aged care program is very effective which is required to be
promoted for managing their lives to maintain their comfort level. However, it is necessary to
enhance the care residential homes in order to provide desired services to senior citizens who are

not able to spend their lives independently. In addition to this, it include that owners,
management, staff members and family members of patient should put efforts to cooperate with
each to establish improved clinical practices to gain better patient outcomes. Moreover, it
includes to focus on strategy development, based on systematic assessment of actual
requirements and use advanced equipments for making lives of aged people more easy and
comfortable.
Reason behind selecting aged care
People who are old or aged will not be able to walk properly and with one or the other
thing they need care and support from other people or their own family. After a certain age any
individual starts loosing in dependency and may not be able to work and take for self. As per
views provided by Brownie, Horstmanshof and Garbutt (2014), old age is sensitive phage, in this
phage people need comfort to lead healthy life and care without any anxiety and worries. As
these are neglected by young people, this project will provide information about problems which
is aged people are facing so they can take care the old people as they need care and support. Lack
of awareness about changing behavioural pattern in aged people at home results to abuse them
by their kin. Hence age progresses various health issues happen such as heart failure, diabetes,
blood pressure, joint pain, TB and kidney infection.
Aged people also desire life with dignity, economic importance, good health and finally
peaceful death. Understanding needs of aged people and keep them jovial that is inevitably ideal
way for a healthy life. As old age is a fragile, so aged people can not take care for themselves
and they need care from the others which can keep them healthy. At the old age people need
more attention and care which can support them emotionally and physically. According to
opinion given by Lim and et. al., (2014), many of aged people can not express themselves
because they are too scared for being humiliated by whom they love. They always long for love,
care and affection at this age. Lending an emotional and physical support can make them feel
better. Most of people ignore their aged parents because of their work which can be a heartbreak
for aged people. Some of them are forced to sell their belongings and left to live in penury till
their death. Aged care is majorly neglected by young people so this project will be able to create
a concern for aged people so they can get care and support.

Gaps in skills to encourage about gaining knowledge about them
In context of aged care, it has been analysed that specific skills and knowledge is required
to deal with senior citizens in respect of providing proper services to them for their welfare. It
consist to develop interpersonal and nursing skills in order to provide accurate care to aged
individuals. However, skills needed consist service orientation, social perspectives, active
listening, effective communication & monitoring and knowledge includes customer & personal
service, psychology, administration & management as well as transportation (Wildenbos, Peute
and Jaspers, 2018). Meanwhile, skill gaps involves ineffective communication, improper
listening and social perspectives. In addition to this, these aspects are required to be overcome by
taking training sessions and guidance of seniors to deal with senior patients in proper way for
giving desired care facilities to them accordingly. Moreover, these factors are responsible for
developing problem at the time of providing desired care facilities to needy aged people. It is
necessary to deal with older people with practice and careful listening to analysed their actual
problem and desires for rendering appropriate care facilities to improve their comfort zone.
At the other hand, communication plays an important role while dealing with patient
specially with older individual for evaluating their issues and demands regarding care facilities.
It is necessary to communicate with them properly by maintaining dignity and respect as
employees are dealing with senior citizens to make them feel comfortable which is favourable
for nurses to provide appropriate services (Porter-O'Grady and Malloch, 2014). The interpersonal
skills and nursing skills are required to developed because they are mandatory for professional to
provide facilities for senior citizens by making them understand benefits of every clinical
practices through gaining their trust. Nursing skills are mandatory to conduct medical services
which are client oriented in order to sort out problem of aged individual for making them feel
relived to spend their lives easily.
Main objective of the project
The main objective of this project is to provide an excellent patient centred care for the
aged people and to give excellent care to them. It consist to gain learning about skills and
abilities to provide more effective as well as efficient care facilitate of old age people in order to
improve their health. However, it is important to gather appropriate skills and capabilities by
carer in order to give proper support and care facilities to aged, patients. In addition to this, it is
necessary to listen problem of patient carefully by conducting effective communication for

making appropriate decision for giving support to old people for encouraging their healthy
living. Moreover, care professional is required know patient as an individual and being
responsive to render meaningful care facilities for increasing their wellness. Furthermore, it is
essential to respect to values, preferences & needs of an individual ad put efforts to fostering
trusting care giving relationship with old age people.
On the other hand, it is necessary for carers about emphasising freedom of choice while
gaining care services and professional are required to promote physical as well as emotional
comfort which is very important for senior citizens to spend their lives comfortably. The care
providers can involve family members, friends and known individuals of old age patients in
order to determine their likes and dislikes to provide proper care in which person is comfortable
(McCabe and Sullivan, 2015). Meanwhile, it is essential to make proper set of care facilities
according to disabilities and health issue of old age patient which provide support to make them
conduct daily routine activities easily. It consist to become friendly with these senior citizens and
make them comfortable to share every problem to carers which facilitate to provide correct
health services for their well-being.
Different objectives of the project
There are number of objectives which are require to be fulfilled in respect of gaining
better patient outcomes in context of aged people. Initially, it is necessary to develop
interpersonal skills such as self confidence, work ethics, relationship management, receptiveness
to feedback, body language, listening, collaboration, showing appreciation, positive attitude and
workplace etiquette. These skills are very important for carers to motivate old aged patient and
conduct desired care practices in accurate manner for their welfare as the will power to become
well-being is very important for better health. However, the second objective is to become an
expert in handling old people by acquiring several abilities in order to provide correct facilities
for improving their comfort level to spend live easily (Milne and Smith, 2015). It include to
follow certain policies including accept the situation, blame it on kids or grand kids, decide the
importance of matter, analyse outlet of feelings, think ahead, treat them as they are adults and
understand the motivation behind behaviour of senior citizens.
In addition to this, the next objective is to provide excellent patient centred care for aged
people and excellent care to these individuals. It requires to focus on being creative &
intellectual, social wellness, physical and being spiritual in order to render accurate services to

old age people for increasing their comfortability. Moreover, another objective is to increase
nursing skills in order to provide effective service to aged people. It involves several abilities
which are required to learned by every carer such as start with right body language, exercise
patience, pay respect, active listening, build rapport, recognise sensory challenges, compassion &
heart to serve, ensure comfort, use plain language and show empathy. Furthermore, the final
objective is to develop learning skills and use tools & technologies to provide physical support to
aged people for making them feel easy (Upshur, 2014). It is necessary to learn use of devices and
equipments which are helpful for aged people to conduct their regular routine work easily.
Benefits of learning the skill
There are number of benefits which can be gathered by learning technical skills in terms
of providing care and comfort zone for senior citizens in proper manner. However, it is helpful to
senior citizens to use social connection for remaining touch with long distance loves ones which
make them happy all the time and that is significant for better health. Moreover, technical
devices make sure safety of old people as they can press a button to gain security when needed to
remains secure as well as well-being. At the other hand, medication management can be carrying
out in proper manner with the help of technical devices as they make old people remember to
take their medicines at right time to ensure their wellness. Meanwhile, health tracking can be
done easily by monitoring senior citizens with the help of technological devices at their homes
by sitting at care home to make sure about their health without travelling one place to another.
Particular issue in past which encourage to learn specific skill
Nursing skills and interpersonal skills play a major role to provide care to aged people.
Aged people are not independent and require more support for the every function. Learning
interpersonal and nursing skill can provide them a better care and support which they needed
most. As cares was lacking with the nursing and interpersonal skills which are important to care
aged people, not able to communicate properly with aged people which is essential (Likupe,
Baxter and Jogi, 2018). After certain age individual's body will not be able to work properly and
aged people may suffer from various health diseases. As they can not care themselves and do not
able be healthy so there are some healthcare which provide them care and support. In these
healthcare, people will be trained to learn nursing and interpersonal skills so aged people can get
good care. Under this training they make sure that nurses can communicate well. Physical health
problems also affect the mental health of the person which make aged people emotionally weak.

These skills are important to communicate with aged people as their understanding ability
weakens with the age.
Nursing skills also include assessing and building relationship with the patient which
make aged people comfortable and they will be able to express more. Interpersonal skills are
very important which make carer to communicate and solve the problems of aged people. These
skills help cares and nurses to communicate better and build a relationship between aged people
and nurses (Isaacson, 2014). Cares or nurse provide a proper training for these skills so they can
communicate in better way, nurse should be able to manage the every situation related to aged
people so they can handle them in better way. Learning interpersonal and nursing skills can give
emotional and physical support and care which aged people required.
Literature findings to support benefits of learning the skill
Nursing skills include effective communication which plays major and important role to
provide care to aged people. To solve problem and to understand it, nurse requires good
communication skill so nurse can provide as per their requirement. It can create comfortable
environment for aged people. Better communication helps to raise treatment satisfaction and
quality of life for aged people. And this can build a good relationship between nurse and aged
person. Aged people do not share anything with anyone because they have fear that they can
loose their love ones, and if a nurse will be able to make comfortable to aged person it can also
help the aged people. Due to good communication skill, nurse can understand aged people
properly to provide them support. Nurse with good communication skill will be more confident
and will provide a better care to aged people.
Effective communication can help aged people live longer and better. It can also affect
positively on mental health of aged people so they will able to be more happy. There are
possibilities that they can overcome from their health issues. Communicating in a proper manner
is essential part of effective care (Malloch, 2017). The care which is more effective with the
good communication and it can increase liveliness in aged people. Only giving care and support
is not enough in case of aged people care, if carer or nurse will be able to talk effectively that can
help them to be healthy. Using a sincere, kind and respectful language make communication
better. To provide a good care to aged people both nursing and interpersonal skills are important.
Communicating in a good way always make aged people feel better and it also provide them a
positive environment.

Achievements of learning skill
Considering development of interpersonal and nursing skills of care providers, both of
these abilities are very important for an individual who render care services to old age people. It
is helpful to understand actual problem of senior citizens and make correct decision for providing
appropriate support to them for improving their comfort zone to stay happy. Meanwhile,
effective communication and active listening facilitate to make an appropriate relationship with
senior patients to make them feeling with with carers and share every single problem
(Wethington and Burgio, 2015). It will provide support to encourage them for taking medications
on time and remain motivated to become well-being by giving desired choice of care to these
individuals.
Implications of learning specific skill related to aged care
The aged care is a specific field which requires few of specified skills in order to deal
with old age patients for making their well-being. It includes interpersonal, nursing and technical
skills in order to provide accurate care to old aged individuals. However, interpersonal abilities
are important to make them feeling comfortable to gain care services by a acre provider along
with establishing an effective relation with patient (Taylor and et. al., 2015). In addition to this, it
is necessary for carers to acquire nursing skills to make correct decision making about
medication and conducting proper treatment procedures to gain better patients outcomes.
Moreover, technical skills are beneficial to utilise technological aids and devices in order to
make old people bale to carrying out daily routine activities. It will also facilitate to reduce risk
of falls in senior citizen along with monitoring them regularly.
CONCLUSION
From the above report, it has been concluded that aged care consist an appropriate system
in which proper care policies and practices are included which facilitate to provide care facilities
to old age people. However, it includes to acquire interpersonal skills like self confidence, work
ethics, relationship management, receptiveness to feedback, body language, listening,
collaboration, showing appreciation, positive attitude and workplace etiquette for making
effective relation with senior citizens. Meanwhile, it includes to use appropriate approaches and
methods which facilitate to make old age people comfortable by making them capable to conduct
daily routine activities easily. In addition to this, it involves the criteria to learn about technical

skills which render help to utilise technological aids which make sure safety of elderly patients
and monitor them regularly to ensure their better health.
