CLOUD COMPUTING
Slide Note: Regional Gardens Ltd. is a gardening organization that sells plants. They have a
data centre in Bathurst and the data is stored there. They are using Windows Server 2008
and Linux Servers as their infrastructure.
This particular infrastructure has become completely obsolete and thus they have decided
to change to cloud architecture (Rittinghouse, & Ransome, 2016).
There are various cloud architectures available in market and they have to select one of
them.
Slide 3: Concepts of Cloud Computing
Slide Note: Cloud computing can be defined as the utilization of several services like
platforms of software development, storage, servers and software on the connection of
Internet.
There are three distinct features of cloud computing. They are as follows:

CLOUD COMPUTING
i) The complete management of the back end application by any cloud vendor.
ii) The scalability of the services are present.
iii) The user of the cloud significantly pays for the services they have utilized.
The main concepts of cloud computing are as follows:
i) IaaS: It is the form of cloud computing, which solely provides virtual infrastructure to
its users (Dinh et al., 2013).
ii) PaaS: It is the second service model of cloud computing that provides online
platform to its users.
iii) SaaS: It is the third service model of cloud computing, which gives online software to
the users.

Slide Note: Regional Gardens Ltd. should select the cloud architecture of Infrastructure as a
Service. It would provide them with a virtualized infrastructure.
There are several significant advantages of IaaS. They are as follows:
i) Flexibility: IaaS is extremely flexible and thus can be used by all organizations for
virtualized infrastructure.
ii) Scalability: IaaS is scalable enough to deal with the overall changes in infrastructure
(Kavis, 2014).
iii) Cost Savings: It helps to reduce the infrastructure cost by providing virtualized
infrastructure.
iv) Disaster Recovery: If the data is lost in any point, there is a scope of recovering that
data by DR strategy.

CLOUD COMPUTING
Slide Note: Regional Gardens Ltd. is using obsolete infrastructure within their organization.
This is creating major problem in their business as they are not being able to get any type of
benefits from that particular infrastructure.
The main problem is that the data is getting lost and the moment it is dealing with bulk
amount of data, there is a high chance that data would be lost and cannot be recovered
(Kavis, 2014).
IaaS is the best answer to this problem. This would help them to deal with bulk amount of
data effectively and efficiently. And their data would not be lost at all.
DR strategy is one of the main strategies of IaaS.

Part 2: Report on Office Automation for Regional Gardens
Ad Hoc Approach with Advantages and Disadvantages
Ad hoc approach is the first and the foremost approach for providing office
automation system in Regional Gardens Ltd. The main characteristic of ad hoc approach is
that it does not follow any type of procedures for completing the testing (Dinh et al., 2013).
The advantages of this approach are as follows:
i) Easy Application: It is extremely easy to apply and can be easily executed without
complexities.
ii) Fast: This type of approach is extremely fast and does not incur much time.
iii) No Requirement of Documentation: The third advantage of this approach is that
it does not require any type of documentation for applying this approach (Fernando, Loke &
Rahayu, 2013).
The disadvantages of Ad hoc approach are as follows:
i) Lack of Processes: The most important disadvantage of this approach is that it
does not follow any procedure and this often becomes a major problem.
ii) Dependent of Tester: This approach is completely dependent on the tester and
this is another disadvantage of this approach.

CLOUD COMPUTING
Structured Approach with Advantages and Disadvantages
The second approach is the structured approach. This approach eventually follows a
structured procedure for the execution of the processes (Rittinghouse & Ransome, 2016).
The office automation could be easily done with the structured approach.
The advantages of this approach are as follows:
i) User Friendly: This particular approach is extremely easy and user friendly.
ii) Follows Process: This approach follows processes and thus could be easily
executed.
The disadvantages of this approach are as follows:
i) Erroneous Data : This approach often provides erroneous data.
ii) Slow: The approach is slower and inefficient in comparison to others.
Recommendation about Approach
The recommended approach for Regional Gardens is Ad hoc approach. It is
recommended as this is extremely beneficial (Hashizume et al., 2013). Although, it does not
follow any structure, it is extremely fast and efficient in comparison to others. Moreover, it
can be easily implemented. Thus, Regional Gardens should implement this approach for
office automation.

Part 3: Report on Migration to IaaS or PaaS
Differences between Infrastructure IaaS and PaaS
Regional Gardens has decided to move the Web infrastructure to public cloud. Two
options are present. They are Infrastructure as a Service or IaaS and Platform as a Service or
PaaS (Manvi & Shyam, 2014). The differences between IaaS and PaaS are given below:
Type of Cloud
Service
What it Offers Utilization of the
Service
Leading Service
Providers
1. Infrastructure
as a Service
(IaaS)
Computation of infrastructure,
involving servers, storage, network
connectivity, platform virtualization
environments and operating systems
i) IaaS is utilized if
the upfront capital
or space for
infrastructure is
unavailable.
ii) Maintaining
control over

Ocean, Linode.
Hardware and data centre
maintained by the service provider
while resources on machine like
memory and CPU are left to
management of user (Kavis, 2014).
Flexibility
2. Platform as a
Service (PaaS)
Services to develop, test, deploy,

i) Customizing
hardware and

ii) Decreasing time
to market is a
priority (Almorsy,

2016).
Engine Yard.
Ability to the use software
components that are controlled by a
third party and convenience.
The problems in IaaS are as follows:
i) Expensive: IaaS is extremely expensive and could not afforded by all.
ii) Backups: The clients are solely responsible for the backups.
The problems in PaaS are as follows:
i) Security: This is the major problem in PaaS. The security of this service provider is
not good as the others.
ii) No Control over Platform: There is absolutely no control over platform and this is
often considered as a major problem in PaaS.
Regional Gardens Ltd. should select Infrastructure as a Service for the data migration
as it is the most secured service provider.

Recommendation about Cloud Model
The recommended cloud model for Regional Gardens Ltd is the Infrastructure as a
Service. This would be the most appropriate model for moving the SharePoint service.
SharePoint 2010 is a specific collaborative web based platform, which eventually helps to
integrate with the software package of Microsoft Office (Hashizume et al., 2013). It is highly
configurable, however the usage of this platform varies between various organizations.
Infrastructure as a Service has several significant advantages. They are as follows:
i) Security: This is the first and the foremost advantage of IaaS. This particular service
model is extremely safe and secured and could be easily utilized for the purpose of any type
of data operation. The data that is operated on this model is never lost or hacked by hackers
or intruders (Manvi & Shyam, 2014). The movement of SharePoint requires utmost security
and thus it is highly recommended.
ii) Speed: This is the second most important advantage of IaaS. The speed of this
service model is very high and anything could be shared easily and promptly.

iii) Flexibility: The third important advantage of IaaS is its flexibility (Hashizume et al.,
2013). The movement SharePoint should be through flexible and scalable cloud service
model and thus IaaS is the best answer to this.

Problems with Recommended Model and their Solutions
Although IaaS comprises of various advantages, there are some of the major
disadvantages in this model (Pahl, 2015). They are as follows:
i) High Implementation Cost: The implementation cost of this model is very high.
Regional Gardens can solve this problem by minimizing the customization.
14

ii) No Control over Servers: IaaS do not have any control over servers and SSL
certificates can reduce this.
