CLOUD COMPUTING
Answer 2
a) Smith Security does not want to move their business applications and servers to cloud as they might
be concerned about the security issues associated with the use of cloud computing. The company has
planned to move all or some of their current infrastructure to cloud but not the servers since it might be
prone to data security risks (Shah & Anandane, 2013). Smith Security is ready to move the infrastructure
to cloud as the existing infrastructure is not up to date and upgrading of OS and the Server hardware will
not be worthy.
However, it is recommended for Smith security to move their application servers to cloud as
well. This will eliminate the need of updating the server hardware as well. Apart from this, there are a
number of benefits of making use of cloud computing (Fernando Loke & Rahayu, 2013). Cloud
computing is recommended for smith security as use of cloud will enable the organization to process
and access their data in a more prompt manner. Furthermore, even in case of hardware failure, there
are less chances of data loss. Therefore Smith Security need not worry about the update of the existing
hardware or server as cloud computing make use of remote resources and servers proving a cost
effective solution to the organization. The two approaches that are proposed for Smith Security are
Infrastructure as a Service (IaaS) and Platform as a Service (PaaS).
b) IaaS and PaaS cloud approach is proposed for Smith Security. It is not only beneficial for the
organization to move to a cloud approach but is essential as well since the existing hardware of the
company and its servers need update and upgrade (Dinh et al., 2013). There are a number of benefits
and quite a few issues associated with IaaS and PaaS which are evaluated in the following table-

Cloud
Approach
Benefits Issues
IaaS IaaS provides virtualized resources of cloud computing
to an organization (Manvi & Shyam, 2014).
In IaaS, customers have full control on their data.
IaaS is one of the costliest
cloud approach
Customers has to take control
of their sata backups
PaaS PaaS is a cost effective approach in comparison to IaaS
(Kolb & Wirtz, 2014).
The users have full control over the software and data
stored
There is certain security issues
associated with PaaS.
Customer has no control over
data processing.
c) On evaluation of the advantages and disadvantages of both the approaches, The IaaS approach is
recommended for Smith Security. This approach is recommended as the existing hardware and the
servers of the company are not up to date (Nguyen, Cheriet & Lemay, 2013). IaaS will provide an
infrastructure to the company for secure data storage and easy access of the data which is a significant
benefit. Apart from this, with the IaaS approach Smith Security has a full control of the data stored and
processed and therefore there is no risk of unauthorized data access (Huang et al., 2015). The move in a
cloud infrastructure is needed by the organization and since Smith Security is not keen on moving their
servers, IaaS approach will be an appropriate option for them.
