CE 1.2 Project Background
CE 1.2.1 Characteristics of the project
Information management is considered to be a critical factor in the effective operations of
daily activities in [please fill college name]. The duration of this project of developing a college
automation system was from [please fill] to [ please fill]. The faculties of this college generally
carry out tasks such as creating academic timetables for different departments, creating
examination timetables and preparing assignment questions through a manual process. This
project was about developing a system for automating the daily activities of the college. This
system had different modules such as faculty, admin and student. These modules were
interconnected for the purpose of reducing the time taken to carry out various operational tasks.
College automation software was developed for integrating and managing valuable information
automatically and efficiently. This intranet-based system developed was able to manage
information about faculties, students, various subjects, marks of students and also generate report
cards for every student. Users were able to access this system based on their roles. All the users
were given different usernames, email ids along with passwords for accessing different

information. This system was developed for enhancing the daily activities of the faculties and the
students. The college automation software was designed and developed in such a way so that it
could generate performance graph for simplifying record tracking process of students. This
system was developed to enhance the process of attendance management and help the professors
to take appropriate actions against defaulter students.

CE 1.2.3 My area of work
I was the member of this project team for developing a system for automating college
processes. I was involved in this project from [please fill] to [please fill]. My area of work was
to carry out a relevant research study for understanding the need and importance of college
automation software. I had reviewed literature articles and journal papers for understanding the

concept of this project. I had to carry out a survey in the [please fill college name] for
understanding the problems and limitations of the manual information management system.
After carrying out a significant research work, I had to focus on the technical specifications of
the college automation software. I had coordinated with the project team leader to carry out the
design and development of the automation software. My team leader had appropriately
distributed the roles and area of work for all the project team members. Initially few of the other
team members had doubts regarding the scope of this project. I had clarified their doubts by
providing proper logical explanations to the other project team members. I had utilized my
software engineering skills in a correct manner for ensuring successful and timely completion of
this project. My area of work also included preparing QA or QC documents of the project. I had
to ensure that there were no loopholes in the overall quality of the project as this was developed
for maintaining student and other valuable educational records.

I had various responsibilities throughout this project. Being a project team member, I was
involved in all the stages of the software development project. My responsibilities were
distributed among all the phases of the project. I had to report to the project team leader. I was
responsible for carrying out a suitable plan for carrying out this project. I had to carry out the
feasibility analysis of the system that was to be developed. The project team leader had given me
the responsibility to monitor the activities of the entire team. I had to identify the area of lag and
design appropriate plans for sufficing the gap. I had to ensure that the daily activities of all the
project team members were correctly carried out. One of my main responsibilities was to carry
out documentation of the entire project. I had determined the number of modules to be designed
and the working principle of the system in details. All the phases of the software life cycle was

maintained and documented by me. I was also responsible for helping the other team members in
the coding phase of the system development. I had documented the detailed and high level
design of the system by ensuring that the documents meet the quality standards. It was my
responsibility to determine the technology to be used for developing this college automation
system. I had to plan a budget for carrying out this project work in a cost-efficient manner. After
the implementation was carried out, I was given the responsibility to actively participate in the
testing of the software. I had to compile the data of the results of the inspection that was carried
out. I was responsible for maintaining and reviewing the status of all the project-related
correspondence.
CE 1.3 Distinctive Activity
CE 1.3.1 Engineering knowledge and skills applied in the project
I have utilized my software engineering skills and knowledge for developing a college
automation system. I have applied my scripting and coding skills to develop this automated
system. My in-depth knowledge of software testing and software development has helped me to
increase the production speed and ensure that quality program was delivered within given time. I
have a significant understanding of the troubleshooting process. I have been able to appropriately
utilize programming tools for automating troubleshooting. I have utilized my software testing
knowledge to perform the unit test, regression test as well as the performance test. My
knowledge about value types, objects, strings, collections and serialization in programming
languages is high and this knowledge was applied to carry out effective documentation process. I
have also used my knowledge of programming tools for developing an efficient system.

CE 1.3.2 Accomplishment and task performed
Effective planning led to the accomplishment of this project. The system developed by us
had three modules: staff, student and admin. Students could access their assignments, view their
grades and give online tests by logging into their portal. Admin could manage other accounts and
information. Staffs could generate reports and timetables in an automatic manner via this
system. Our team had used PHP, JavaScript and CSS for the front end of the system. We had
used MySQL for the backend of this application. I have used bootstrap for increasing the
responsiveness of the automation system. We were able to achieve the objectives of this project.
The system developed by us was more convenient and efficient for the [please fill college name].
It was able to reduce manual works by automating several processes. It was able to reduce errors
and improve the accuracy of the information. The main features of this system included
increased responsiveness and user-friendly interface. This system was able to reduce the
workload of the professors and admin. Our team was successful in developing a system that was
able to eliminate staff time and increase the productivity of the professors by automating the
main processes of the college. The information quality was enhanced as accurate reports were
generated. Correct feasibility analysis and technical specifications had helped me in meeting the
required quality standards of this project.

CE 1.4.2 My contribution to work
I was the team member of this project. I had played a significant role throughout the
project starting from the planning phase to the system deployment phase. I had designed an excel
sheet for keeping the track record of the daily activities of all the team members. The budget plan
made by me was cost-effective and it was appreciated by my project team leader. I had utilised
my strong interpersonal skills for effectively coordinating with my team leader and other team
members. The testing procedure that was carried out by me was accurate and this contributed to
the development of a productive system. I was able to produce documents that met the given
quality standards. My skills and knowledge played a significant role in the success of this
project.
