Task 1
Effect of noise in visual communication
The shared piece of visual image is of a railway website that provides the information
related to timetables of the different trains and the fares (Timetables and Fares | Great Central
Railway – The UK's Only Main Line Heritage Railway, 2020). The audience of the website is
the commuters of the trains and thus, the public population. These are information of special
trains running on weekends and thus target audience is the middle to high-income consumers
that are looking for short holidays. The website provides information in a crisp and to the
point manner. The audience would have no difficulty in understanding the information.
Despite that, many noises in the website might take away the attention of the audience
from the intended message. For example, the website contains many advertisements and
unnecessary additional links to other pages of the website as well as outside web pages that
might divert the attention. These are all contextual noise and affects the visual information.
The page also contains links to special events held by them, which might be necessary
information but can be found easily from the website tabs. The website uses monochromes of
blue and dark purple which is symbolic of the official nature of the site and the luxury of the
service that they provide (Yu, 2016).
The website is hosted by the Great Central Authority, making the site credible and
accurate (Popat et al., 2016). The credibility and accuracy is further increased by the fact that
they provide contacts for their office and gives detailed information about fares. The website
also explains the meaning of symbols. For example, the site explains that the timings marked
with asterisk are all run by heritage diesel car. The detailed tables of fare and timetable makes
this reliable as well. There are no hidden messages as they clearly explain the reasons for

which they cannot provide certain services such as accommodating a wheelchair in the
locomotive. These increases the trustworthiness of website.
The website is copyrighted to 2020, which indicates the information provided are
accurate. The noise present in the website includes the links to donation, latest news and links
to other services. There are also links to their social media site like Facebook and twitter.
There are also video links to their car shed and their future planning information. The website
uses images and text as their communication channels along with their social media
platforms.
Task 2
Effectiveness of tourism website of Australia
The tourism website of Australia is built in such a way that it provides an instant
reliability to the page (Tourism Australia Corporate Website - Tourism Australia., 2020). The
color scheme is blue and yellow; the logo is symbolic of their national imagery (Yu, 2016).
The tourism department of the Government of Australia hosts the website and thus provides
information that are both credible and accurate. The website is fuss free and there are no
apparent noise in the pages. They only focus on the content and necessary information
providing. They have included elements that are designed to attract international and
intercultural audience. The website uses easy language and in many cases, the topics are
symbolically represented. The message that they share are easy to understand and are created
in such a way that the audience will be attracted. They include information about diverse
events including trade fairs, aboriginal events and entertainment, thus creating opportunity
for all.
