Sustainability and its significance in modern engineering
Sustainability has been referred as the concept that is used for meeting the requirements of the
present without compromising the ability of meeting the need of the future (Harper, Harper and
Snowden, 2017). The foundation sustainability is found to be based on three pillars that comprise
of environmental, economic and social aspects. These pillars can also be informally termed as
profits, planet and people.
Modern engineering is the concept that majorly comprise of technology but also is concerned
with the advancements and understanding of technological mechanisms and the offerings,
impacts and relevancy of the technology (Yearley, 2014). As sustainability is a contemporary
concept it will be considered as significant for modern engineering business. The following are
some most empirical aspects that will be presenting the significance of sustainability in modern
engineering business:
Environmental sustainability practices will lead the business organization with number of
benefits. Sustainable business is more innovative by nature and that will lead in generation of
offering high quality of products.
Sustainability will offer long run benefits such as better pay for the employees that will allow
improved lives.
Environmental and resource efficiency issues
The daily practices or the operations executed within the workplace and the impacts of same on
environment can be termed as the environmental and resource efficiency issues. These issues
vary as per the nature of the business (Miller, Shemer and Semiat, 2015). And as per the given
scenario Woolworths will be facing the below mentioned issues:
