INTRODUCTION
• Communication is an exchange of information through different medium
like, speaking, writing and many more.
• In a relationship, communication helps people to understand each other
better and can identify different needs.
• Good communication is achieved through good listening and speaking
abilities which helps in connection and care.
• In this Presentation, various needs and factors of communication in care
relationship would be discussed.

When and How to Seek Advice
• There are times when people get confused and hesitant to ask advice from others.
There are some ways by which they can seek advice without any hesitancy
discussed below:
• Use Positive Tone
When asking for advice it is important to acknowledge people are not liable to help so
the person asking for help must be polite and be more direct to the advisor.
• Provide Context
Being prepared for the conversation and pitching out the issue or situation they need
advise on, not only save time but improves direct communication.

• Seek Out to Right Person
If the advisor is not interested in the situation or field the person is seeking advice on then they can deny the
request or give the wrong advice.
• Do not Ask Everyone
Asking same advice from everyone can lead to confusion and confliction of thoughts. They would not be
able to identify the right advice and might end up taking wrong decision.
• Do Not Assume the Reply
If the person assumes the reply of the advisor and then that turn out to be something entirely different it can
throw them off guard and make them upset or assume that advice is not right.

Ways to Promote Active Participation
• Two ways that can promote active participation when supporting an
individual to communicate are:
o Respecting Individual Choices, Rights and Independence
• Every individual is different from one another, they think differently, they
choose differently, they have different perception of situations.
• To support someone communicates, it is important to acknowledge those
differences and understand the individual choices they have made so far.

o Good Listening Ability
• A good listener is someone who pays attention to what a person is communicating with them
and its details.
• Good listeners allows the individual to speak what is in their head without any feeling of
negligence from the other side, instead it makes them feel heard and make them feel special.
• They are all ears without any fail of distraction, seems curious to the speaker and makes the
individual comfortable in the situation without any air of awkwardness.

Person Centred Working
• A person centred working is an approach where an individual is put at
the centre of the service.
• In this approach, a person is focused on the basis of what they can do
not what their disability or conditions are.
• It supports the person to be involved in decision-making about their life.
• This approach enables to take each individual's age, gender, life
experience, culture and heritage, beliefs and identity and language in
account.

• Hence, according to person's priorities and wishes it should be able to bend the services so better support
could be given.
• The biggest strength that it is based on is to acknowledge people are the expert of their own life and
nobody knows better about them than themselves.
• It is concentrated on what they can do as first and what do they need help in as second.
• Person centred working also uses the person's network of support as partners to give more personal and
detailed service.

• Culture and language define and builds a person's personality.
• It is important to acknowledge individual's cultural and language background to know what environment they
have grown into.
• There are many cultural aspects, like, clothing, food, religion and language.

How to Support Needs of Individual
• There are many ways to support needs of an individual to communicate their views, wishes and
preferences but the most important factor that enable them to communicate without second thought:
o Be Open-Minded
• The individual can show hesitation to show their views on certain things due to fear of judgement.
• They may not communicate thinking it can be taken out of context or blow out of proportion.
• To make an individual comfortable enough to convey their views, a person must show they are open-
minded to any situation and thought they might have.

• They will be more likely to initiate the conversation and show their preferences, express their views and
wishes to others if there is no judging eye.
• Open-Minded people also tend to be welcoming of new ideas, or even arguments. This tendency of
them allows the individual to talk with free-will.
• This also make people to be more respectful of other people's choices, rights and preferences and
general idea of world, they can also see through other people's eye and are more likely to be empathetic.

Importance of Time in Communication
• Time is an important part of communication as it allows people to pay attention
to the person communicating
• It allows people to think and formulate what they want to convey other people
so that an effective communication could take place.
• Time also gives space to individual so that they can get comfortable in the
situation and with the person they are communicating to.
