1.0 Introduction
1.1 Background
Globalisation has had a dramatic influence on the way in which businesses achieve growth
and market dominance. Corporate success now relies on institutions adopting practices to
meet the demands of these new challenges. While organisations employ varied methods to
increase success, employee performance is often acknowledged to be the most crucial. This is
essential for both companies and individual workers to recognise, as strategies to enhance
employee skills will directly relate to an organisations bottom line. ACME Business services
sees this obligation as vital and because of this they are interested in ways to increase their
employee success. Employees who can demonstrate effective communication skills are the
driving force of any company. (Moran, Harris and Moran, 2011) identify that for a company
to have an advantage over their competitors they must have workers who recognise and adopt
superior communication competency. Ultimately, employees who enhance their
communication ability will not only influence their individual success but also the success of
the company they work for. This issue is of particular importance to Ms Yamada who has
requested a report researching this topic, which is due for submission on 14th September
2018.
1.2 Purpose
The purpose of this report is to analyse the importance of employee communication skills that
are required for success in business. The client will then use this information to create
resources to improve employee workplace competency.

2.0 Discussion
2.1 Feedback
One fundamental communication skill required by employees is the vital competence of
quality feedback. According to (Webb, 2014) feedback must be ‘personal’ to gain the most
benefit for staff. Based on this evidence colleagues should target their feedback towards
individual employee’s needs. This is an important aspect of communication as many workers
rely on advice to improve their performance. Furthermore, the ability to use feedback is
generally viewed by workers as helping to build positive relationships, forming strong
working teams. As a result, employees would not only feel more comfortable giving feedback
but also receiving it. Secondly, evidence confirms that feedback must be 'ongoing', which
ensures its value in the workplace (Heller, 2017). This is crucial for management and staff to
recognise, as the checking of initial feedback can assess whether the advice was understood.
Employees who comprehend and respect this ongoing feedback often feel confident to show
initiative. This can then reduce the dependence on other staff members, increasing workplace
efficiency. Therefore, feedback that is both personal and ongoing is a valuable
communication skill which can increase success in the workplace.

Based on the discussion research and conclusions, the following recommendations are made
to ACME Business Services:
4.1
ACME business service needs to ensure that it recruits people that have a sound listening
skill. At the same time, the people need to possess the ability to remember the things that they
heard in order to communicate it
4.2
ACME business needs to train the employees about the manner in which ethical
consideration in communication can be maintained. It needs to provide a session that assists
the employees in understanding the posture required to be maintained while communicating
face-to-face.
4.3
Better communication can help the employees of ACME to remain motivated. The managers
can adopt effective listening skills so that they can encourage the employees to continue to
work in an efficient manner. At the same time, the listening skills can provide an
enhancement in the career.
4.4
ACME business managers need to provide both summative as well as formative feedback so
that they can encourage the employees to work hard. This can help them in understanding the
performance of the employees and evaluating it effectively.
