PART B: Reflective Evaluation
The present report is about reflective evaluation which will show nature and purpose of
reflective practice and personal experience of Outcome 1 with context of Morrisons Supermarket
Plc. In the similar aspect, it will give key issues encountered during role play activities with one
success and development area.
Understanding of nature and purpose of reflective practice
Reflective practice is considered as ability for reflecting one's action for engaging in a
process for learning on continuous basis. I feel that it involves paying censorious attention to
practical values along with theories which directly inform regular actions through examining
practice reflexively and relatively (Mantell, 2018). I have implied this reflective practice for my
development and it will also provide help to others as well. In simple words, I could describe it
as it helps me for allowing to recognize weakness and strengths and to guide me for ongoing
learnings, developing skills in self-directed learning and improving motivation. In my opinion,
its main objective is to attain learnings through practical experience and to introduce
connections among what have been taught in specific theory and what one needs to practice
(Yuan and Mak, 2018).
The reflection model is implied in this study is Gibbs' reflective cycle as it encourages to
think on systematic aspect related to phase of activity or experience as its structure is stated
below:
Description
Feelings
Evaluation
Analysis
Conclusion
Action plan
Gibbs' reflective cycle would help me to think about each phase of activity or experience.
In simple words, it is very clear and precise and allows with context to analysis, description
along with evaluation of experience and helps to make sense of experience and examining the
final practice (Dressler and et.al., 2018). Thus, in action plan, I could mention about unique
aspect in situation of next time and steps going to be taken with context to what I have learned.

Reflection on personal experience on basis of organization
Description: While performing the assignment of community engagement in which Part
A was about organizational analysis, I selected Morrison’s Supermarket of United Kingdom. I
was asked to evaluate the concept of transferable skills and methods for adapting requirements of
organizational setting. In same series, even concepts of community and personal development
and methods to extend and review interpersonal skills with application of theoretical concepts
and creating problem solving to real situations. This comprises detailed analysis of Morrison’s
Supermarket as fourth largest super chain in UK and headquartered in Bradford, West Yorkshire,
England. In brief, I was asked to identify its industry, size, and structure, explanation of goals,
values and missions.
Feelings: At initial stage, I was confused but by time, I had initiated work with courage
for performing organizational analysis of Morrison’s Supermarket. For determining its industry,
size, structure, mission, values, customers I felt that it should be appropriate and realistic, as it
should not be vague whereas I did not want to embarrass myself to my tutor. Later, I
communicated to my mentor, so it was suggested to use information from authentic data which
are patented or copyright on recent basis. Apart from this, literature must be relevant, current and
credible was instructed by mentor this would lead to formulate ideas and how they aggregate
value.
Evaluation: This task was extremely challenging for me due to lack of resources but
somehow I managed to get its annual report of current and past 2 years of Morrison’s
Supermarket. I have evaluated about sector where it operates along with their size, structure and
explanation of goals, value and missions. Further, I have determined customers and there
expectations in terms of services and goods and there is evaluation of SWOT analysis for
identifying strengths, weakness, threats and opportunities. Simultaneously, function of
employees within Morrison’s supermarket and their support to accomplish its objectives and
even significance of training and development to company with numerous aspect as choosing
role with their skills and knowledge required to carry out and their requirements to be
considered.
Analysis: The Morrison’s Supermarket is operating in retail super stores as it is engaged
in in-store and online grocery retailing activity and also distributes and manufactures fresh food,
morning breads and goods. The organization operates by 491 stores and 334 petrol filling

stations. Its mission statement is to give each customers with the best value to money on
shopping on weekly basis where they stay. More specialist butchers, bakers and fishmongers in
store than competitors. As they are serving 11 million customer transactions in each week as
their sites are 491 conveniently located supermarkets, 18 manufacturing sites and 9 distribution
centres. While performing SWOT, it had attained strength on financial basis as strong balance
sheet with large freehold estate, net pension surplus and low debt which had continued
generation of sustainable and significant level of free cash flow.
In this analysis, potential weakness is determined as risk and internal audit team operate
with business for agreeing robust actions for mitigating. In order to attain success, role of
employees to be engaged and motivated as their six priorities are to be competitive, serve
customers better, extracting local solutions, developing famous and useful services, simplifying
and speed up and making core supermarkets strong again. Thus, it has analysed that training and
development helps in raising employee morale as they attain feeling to be connected with
company and even motivation to works which boosts overall performance.
Conclusion: After performing, this entire analysis, I have attained that Morrisons
supermarket had attained progress with increment in size and profit margin over 2 years. I have
articulated that they had given focus to listen and learn through their colleagues and customers
and even improved each aspect of shopping trip, highly competitive and serves customer in
better aspect.
Reflection on relationship among relevant theory and experience
In this context, I have articulated that numerous people learn best from experience. On
the contrary, if it does not show experience and if they do not think on conscious basis to think to
perform better next time as it is very hard to learn. The reflective cycle is straight forward and
encourages clear details about situation creating cycle which is never ending and giving benefit
to reflective practice. I have not stop learning or reflecting on what has been performed.
Moreover, Gibbs model of reflection directly caters for process of learning through experience
whereas I got benefit through reflective learning with context to deep understanding of strength
and weakness and determination of underlying value, areas of improvement and possible
insufficiencies. While studying Gibbs model of reflection, I have realized that one is directly
encouraged for examining someone's experience with consideration of his or her feelings (Hum,
2018). I have determined strengths and weakness and what is going to be improved, in this

aspect choice has been analysed and reasons for effective or ineffective and then decision has
been undertaken for course of action in the future.
In this organizational analysis, this study I have used reflective learning has engaged
steps in Gibbs model. With this application, this helped me to learn from mistakes so those
mistakes are not repeated. During reflection of experience, great ideas could surface as this
models leave room to help other. While reflecting experience, I have considered others feelings
as well and reflections helps to extract perspective of situation.
Simultaneously, I have chosen Gibbs model for reflection of Morrisons supermarket as it
could be adopted at any situation. As this helps in reflecting in day activities and even could
correct situation on quick aspect if there is presence of negative impact and implement plan into
action for deriving positive outcome (Nesbit, Jensen and Delany, 2018). In simple words,
awareness of feelings, evaluation of experience and exploring various other options
consideration and reflecting upon experience for examining what to do in situation when it
arises. This encourages people for thinking systematically about multiple phases of experiences.
The reflective practice leads to development of effective self-management, team working,
communication, interpersonal and leadership skills.
