This presentation provides an overview of community policing, including its history, importance of community confidence, theories, styles, and impact. Community policing is a system that allocates police officers in a way that it becomes easier for the officers to mingle with the local public. It creates safe and secured zones for the locale which is very important. Theories of community confidence in policing include effect on crime, police community relations, and police community problem solving. Styles of holding community confidence in policing include watchman, legalistic, and service styles. The impact of having community confidence in policing is discussed as well.

With the advent of modern government in the
United States, community policing came into
existence. According to Peel’s principle,
community policing is the most important
way crimes in particulate city, state or town
can be avoided. Peel argues that the prime
aim of police must be to prevent crime and
restore harmony in state (Cordner, 2014).
Peel essentially called it as a beautiful
alternative to repressive military force.

imposed by the government since 1980s.

somewhere the relationship has seemingly

witnessed that police and societal
relationships are turning sour

Police community problem solving: problem
solving attitude needs to be possessed both
by police and by the individuals of a
particular state. In order to solve a problem
both the police and the community needs to
have problem solving attitude (Thurman &
McGarrell, 2014). The failure of this quality
on a part may result in disfunctioning of the
program.

Styles of holding community confidence in
policing
Community policing can be majorly divided in
accordance to their styles. The three main styles of
community policing are watchman, legalistic and
service styles.
Watchman: It is the most widely followed community
policing style. It is also the most traditional style of
community policing.
Legalistic: As the very term suggests, this style refers to
legal approaches made by polices in a community. This
particular style does not hold any space for brotherhood
or sympathy between police and community and has
sorted and prescribed legal rules laid for types of crime
performed.

Styles of holding community confidence in
policing
Service style: This particular style id followed
in elite and posh areas of a particular state or
country. According to this style the polices
are in the service of citizens. Most of the law
and order system are taken in support of the
citizen. For instance, polices need to
produced legal documents before arresting
criminals for minimal crime. However, polices
are given the authority to spot arrest in case
of grave crimes (Thurman & McGarrell,
2014).

In some cases the crime rate on a particular
place does bent down.
The crime rates bent down mostly in rural
areas
In the urban areas community policing has
been seen as taking undue advantage of the
practice
Thus community policing moderately helped
urban sections of a country (Thurman &
