OVERVIEW
In the most of general terms, Gothic literature can be defined the style of writing that
employs dark and Picturesque scenery, startling & melodramatic narrative devices. These are
consider the overall explanation about the atmosphere of exoticism, fear, dread and mystery.
Different kind of gothic novel, stories, film descriptions are majorly associated with mystery and
intrigue surroundings the supernatural aspects. The primary characteristics of Gothic text include
death, haunted homes, family curses, powerful romance and ghost. In this documentation, it will
discuss about the comparison between two gothic texts such as “The Tell Tale Heart”- Edgar
Allan and Poe and “Dracula Untold”- Gary Shore.
TASK
Gothic Beginnings- Every story has been started at some point, so does every story-telling
genre. The Gothic fiction has no exception. Initially, it is the simplest way to represent
publication of short story “The Tell Tale Heart” and written by Edgar Allan and Poe. Before
starting the session, it is mainly focused on term of Gothic which is primarily represented the
historical aspects, but a self-declaration attached to “The tell-tale heart” grafted in form of
literature. Thus, it is also creating a new literacy genre (Silva, 2017). On the basis of discussion,
it has been explored the connection to gothic literature and identify the timeless features.
“The Tell Tale Heart”- Edgar Allan and Poe
A tell-tale heart is basically referred to the constant sound of heart beat that would be
narrated by Edgar Allan & Poe. It can be heard the actual reason behind murdered of old man.
The heart beat is usually comes from narrator, guilt-ridden conscience and leads him to move
towards another direction by itself. Even though this is one of the Poe’s shortest stories and
written by gothic text which nevertheless a profound and at the times, ambiguous investigation
of man’s paranoia. In context of gothic text, Poe reveal about the text of tell-tale-heart which
revolve the plat around an individual person. He was insisting as same thing, Murders on old
man because of his vulture eye.

In The Tell Tale Heart story, there are three gothic elements that are considered in the
story, which are represents as unique setting, specific theme of decay & death. Moreover, it can
be represented the original presence of madness. Unlike many different kind of gothic fiction
included in the story. But it does not take in term of physical abandoned, haunted house and
other kind of ominous castle. The setting is basically described about the darkness and shadowy
place but this story may take some place where a house is located within urban area or place. The
narrator is forces to image some kind of settings and make it all become represented as
frightening (Sheridan, 2018). This story is one of the classic example of gothic fiction which
typically involves a threatening atmosphere. Therefore, it is very important to just understand the
background and actual forms of story line. Poe has done excellent job in order to portray with
gothic fiction and also demonstrating that true horror scene. The frantic tone of story has been
represented as reader for darkness, feeling so much gloominess or despair.
On the other hand, it has been identified archetypal element of gothic writings in the story
and analyse the pervasive theme of decay and death by narrative. As per evidence, death of
theme is become consider as obsession which is apparent when narrator explain his activities. In
this way, it is also described the activities of old man’s in the room and watching his vexing eye.
This kind of activity is motivated him to murder the man in both violent and traumatic way. In
the form of gothic text speech, narrator is described how an old man eyes which makes him feel
and started to understand the perception. This kind of situation is perfect distinctness- all as dull
blue with hideous veil and chilled marrow in his own bones.
On the basis of discussion, it has been examined that element represent ambiguity in this
story because of common gothic literature. Once the actual sound of heart beating has become
unbearable for him, Narrator try to overcome this situation in order to include emotions, loses
grip of sanity, confess to the crime (Sweeney, 2017). For example- it has been used the Simple
Quotes-“Villians! Dissemble no more! It is beating of his hideous heart! These are considered
the simplest quotes exists in gothic literature story. At initially, it is difficult to understand the
internal Chaos or struggle of self-delusion. The darkness, unsettling situation or condition, the

death theme or decay represent the actual presence of madness. This kind of condition is
suggested as gothic characteristics or feature in this narrative. Edgar Allen Poe uses this kind of
story in order to prove as gothic text speech and represent the capability to be committed towards
heinous act like this story.
“Dracula Untold”- Gary Shore
Dracula Untold is not horror film like “the Tell Tale Heart”- Edgar Allan and Poe but the
similarity between both films are all about the use of gothic literature and speech text. It means
that represent as super and classic Gothic film. The story is all about the true incident which
means represent as Transgressive Gothic. Dracula untold by Gary Shore has mentioned different
features of classic Gothic genre (Mubarki, 2021). These are including motifs like a dark setting,
heightened emotions. It is used the Damsel in context of both distress and mystery plot. In some
cases, Dracula untold is one of main themes or universal concept which include unrequisted
romance love and transformation.
In Dracula untold story, it has been focused on gothic element which carried out in the
film. It has been represented the terrible struggle that has already mentioned against sleep so
often of late. The pain of sleeplessness, fear of sleep and such kind of unknown facts shown in
horror film. For example- it may uses gothic text: How Blessed some people, Lives have no
fears, to whom sleep is one of the blessing that comes identified in nightly. It brings nothing but
consider as sweet dreams. At this part of story, it is full of gothic literature which become sticks
out to me when it comes talking about emotion.
The character represent the Gothic style in the Dracula untold story which means that
create eternal struggle between evil and human. Sometimes, it takes the necessary form of
omnipotent forces and significant role of Dracula, her connection with humans (Zarieva and
Iliev, 2017). The human antagonists are basically representing the men that have involved in the
societal factors. There is usually consider as lead role of female as Dracula that stands between
protagonist and antagonist. She was represents the actual goals of both evil and good factors.

Comparison
As per analysis, both stories are perfectly framed by Narrative and has since then
representing duplication in the form of Gothic texts. There are two narrator of Edgar Allan and
Gary Shore. These are mainly framed his or her story as discovered idea of gothic text that was
completely translated for public reading. Narrators had represented her/his story as series of
multiple letters. These are developed as inter-textual relationship between both story narrators.
For example- using simple Quotes-‘who passes it, his own story and who in turn. These
are consider as translators of all narratives in series of letters. This was become common
approach or trend in context of Gothic fiction. In particularly, the reader is not just reading a
story of film, movie but it is reading a perception, idea, and translation behind the action or
drama into readable work in the form of Gothic fiction. In this way, it will focus on comparison
between two different narrative stories but similarity is that when it is written in the form of
Gothic text, literature (Bacon, 2020). As per analysis, it has found that storytelling style and its
phases steps outside the boundaries of its conventional perspectives. Mainly, it has been used the
content of Gothic text which take place within fantastic approach. Generally, it is mainly focused
on the stylish devices that help to frame narrative ideas and then express in the sense of realism
or other kind of purely realm.
The setting of “The Tell Tale Heart” story by Edgar and Poe in the form of Gothic
fiction. It means focus on the attempting to navigate the right direction. In order to identify the
meaning of actual horror stories. Edgar & Poe writes to his imaginary perception towards
darkness, cozy environment and include sound effects (Zarieva and Iliev, 2017). This kind of
fiction is not inspired or motivated the reader but it would increase curiosity among readers in
regards of thriller Spence at end. Edgar & Poe, who server as record keeper of story and creature
narratives. This kind of feeling will be created as loneliness and remoteness because of gothic
fiction in the story. Moreover, it adds some extra element and other kind of obstacle for narrator
to overcome critical situation and further update some settings.

Apart from that focus on “Dracula Untold”- Gary Shore, representing the gothic fiction
about the human evil, light and dark. However, it is belongs to the Dynamic perception towards
character of Dracula and victim. Depending on the critical situation, it has been examined the
positive as well as negative aspect of character. The gothic fiction in this story is related to dark,
powerful physique, frequently show as possession of glory eyes, expression which is mainly
indicated a mixture of gloom and Contempt (Zarieva and Iliev, 2017). At initial point, the reader
encounter with record of factious letters with full of expression, wildness and madness. In this
way, it is describing the creature of Dracula and constantly changing her physical appearances
and her strength.
Count Dracula as imaginary monster, it is recognised the horrible person in the western
world, but this is very familiar for everyone. Usually, it has been represented the physical
existence such as widows peak, craved, black hair and penetrating eyes. This kind of image has
been developed by itself, is very common in children in regards of Halloween Costume for
decades.
The setting- It is a central part of Gothic fiction. Dracula untold story carried put several
kind of features, characteristics. It relies on the landscapes and also emphasize dark, foreboding
atmosphere. Gary writes:-“the grey of morning has passed and sun is high over distance
horizon”. The overall transition of this story is focus on the visual beauty which provide a higher
level attraction. Many readers are influenced with Gothic fiction and create an important
dynamic attraction towards story.

From above discussion, it has been summarised about the characteristics of Gothic text
within two different stories such as “The Tell Tale Heart”- Edgar Allan and Poe and “Dracula
Untold”- Gary Shore. Analyse and compare between the Gothic texts, fictions regarding death,
haunted homes, family curses, powerful romance and ghost.
