COMPARISON BETWEEN REFORMS IN DIFFERENT ERAS1
In the history of America, the Progressive Era is mentioned to that phase of the
country when there were widespread reform movements in the country from the time period
between the years 1890’s to the 1920’s. The movement aimed at the reform movements in the
country which were aimed at the industrialization, urbanization, immigration and the main
issues of the corruption in the politics. In the same way, The Great Depression was the result
of the economic crisis which took place in the world as a result of the stock markets facing
problems. These periods included the reform movements that focuses on solving the
problems in both the areas.
The thesis of this essay is to describe the intentions and the reform movements
that were caused as part of the problem solving of the periods of the Progressive era as
well as the Great Depression Era.
These two eras focused on the reform movements that were aimed at removing the
problems in both the Progressive Era. These reforms consisted of removing the issue of the
corruption from the political corruption as well as the fields of the industrialization,
urbanization, and immigration (Lasch-Quinn: 2019). The main intention of the reformers of
the was to punish the corrupt officials of the parties in order to establish the democracy in the
country. It was also the intention of the reformers to decrease the abilities of the of the leaders
of the saloons a s well as to bring about equality in the country in the way that the women
would be able to vote on equal grounds as the men of the country (Pickard: 150). Most of
these reforms made up the reform movements of the Progressive Era in the history of the
United States of America.
Much like the Progressive Era, The Great Depression is another movement of the
crisis in the economy of the country which occurred in the United States in October 1929.
Some of the major causes of the problems are the over-valuement of the stock markets due to
