Compassion is one of t he most
important aspect of nursing.
Compassion requires the nurses
to put t hemselves int o the shoes
of t he ot her, underst and their
feelings, f eel t heir condit ion and
show empathy t owards t he
patient s. It s about giving respect
to t heir f eelings and opinions and
treating t hem as they want t o be
treated(Davidson, Daly & Hill,
2013).
It means t hat the nurse should be
wit h the pat ient all t he time, in
t heir sufferings and pain. They
should show empat hy and
compassion in t heir att itude when
int eract ing wit h the patient,
make them
comfortable and relaxed and also
making t hem feel that t heir
f eelings are respected and valued
According to the NMBA
standards, the nurses should
engage in therapeutic relationship
with the patients and deliver
patient centered care,
based on their needs.
